This manufacturing plant has old and obsoleted production machinery. You feel like you're back in time when you walk into the plant. There is very little automation and almost everything is made and produced manually by hands. Rumor has it that management are looking to sell the business as they have recently reduced headcount and drastically reduced some employees promised bonuses in order to boost profit and make the business attractive to potential buyers. They have also stopped spending money on equipment upgrades and halted most spending. Some areas in the plant process harsh chemicals and are hazardous and toxic. There are a lot of safety issues that have been ignored for a long time. Product quality is inconsistent and not as good as competitors unless a ton of money is spent on upgrading tools and equipment. Crystal growth furnaces have past their useful life and leak chemicals and coolant, while other machines lack the necessary safety devices to prevent accidents or injuries during operation. Some computers on the floor have obsoleted software and operating systems such as Windows 2000 or Windows 7. There are no spare parts in the plant, and sometimes production comes to a halt when a machine breaks down until an old part can be found and purchased on the internet. The men and women working on the floor are wonderful, they work hard and do their best to make production despite all the difficulties. There is no accountability whatsoever, most managers and HR people work remotely and don’t know about what is going on in the plant. Maintenance personnel are constantly fixing broken equipment and are on call around the clock. High turnover rate due to low morale, poor company culture, low compensation and benefits, and lack of recognition and growth opportunities.
