Pros

I really enjoyed working with the clients. Job coaching was pretty fun most of the time. The staff had a pretty good sense of humor and we were usually able to engage clients with that and get them laughing and having a good time.

Cons

Most of the staff were not knowledgeable about mental health. Turnover was incredible high. Pay was low. The schedule changed constantly. There was no consistency for clients. Staff members were asked to run groups in things they had no experience or training with. Staff meetings were rare and when they did occur, less than half of the staff would show up.

Many pros and many cons...

Pros

MAB serves many populations who are in need of daily support and care, both mentally and physically. This is the reason I stayed for so many years; the clients deserve so much and so many come from broken homes. Even for those who have loving families, their relationships with their families improve because they get to be more independent and the families get to share their responsibilities. Any position at MAB will allow you the opportunity to increase your skills in working with people with disabilities; most days, the job is highly rewarding. When staff composition is filled with mature and dedicated individuals, the job feels like a team effort which helps tremendously.

Cons

Some clients have difficulty managing their negative emotions and may unload it onto you in unhealthy ways. This makes the job very emotionally (and physically) exhausting. When some staff members weren't dedicated to the job, it made a normal work day more stressful than it needed to be.
