Pros

You’re not always in the office, you get to fly to mine sites a lot.

Cons

The mine sites don’t actually want the “support” you have to give them. Middle management are bullies, and there’s a lot of 1970s style stuff like everything is done on paper and printed out, sexual innuendo is part of casual conversation, and HR only apply correct procedures if they like you. Wasn’t at all surprised to see the sexual assaults covered up on 60 minutes, have heard of many complaints just disappearing, or the person who complains is frozen out or just dropped from rosters. No matter how late you work finishing projects up, you’ll get reprimanded if you try to leave early for doctor appointments.

Pros

nice people in the team

Cons

bad unsupportive management, bad salary, no work from home flexibility, they don't care if you leave the company they treat everyone as if they're replaceable, massive purple circle, clock watchers - used to get emails if i got back from lunch 5 minutes late reminding me my hours, no give and take - site visits but no hours back, toxic environment

Limited opportunites but good culture

Pros

Culture, everyone makes an effort to get to know you and your family situation etc. Collaboration, everyone pitches in to get tasks achieved. High level of community involvement - Ride to Concur Cancer. Not strict on work hours as long as working at a high output.

Cons

Limited growth options, particularly for females. No mentoring or formal upskilling offered. Would be nice if other charities could be supported as well as RTCC. No salary or performance reviews in the five years I have been here.
