Cons
The Communications Department at Mass MoCA suffers from a serious lack of leadership and direction. Systems and workflows are outdated, inefficient and resistant to improvement which makes even basic tasks more difficult than they need to be. There is little investment in staff development, and opportunities for growth or mentorship are essentially nonexistent. Morale is low, and it’s not hard to see why. The staff is underpaid, overextended, and generally unhappy. Support is minimal, expectations are confusing, and accountability at the leadership level is noticeably absent. Transparency is also an issue. On my first day, I was informed that I would not receive holidays off—something that was never mentioned during the hiring process and absolutely should have been disclosed upfront. If you are looking for support, professional growth, or a healthy work environment, this is not the place. Proceed with caution.
