Pros

Unfortunately, there are not many pros to report. The salary was decent, but not worth the aggravation and stress.

Cons

Enviornment is sink or swim and offers little to no help for new employees. You will go through 3 days of training and then you are on your own from there. The work is not challenging and once you learn it you will be bored immediately. In addition, the company uses antiquated technology that has no business being in the 21st century. While the work is easy, management treats mistakes like it's the end of the world. If you so much as omit a comma, they will be sure to let you know that your job is in jeopardy. There are also many unwritten rules within the company and it is impossible to know if you are breaking one until it is too late. Management is very passive aggressive...one person I knew had a manager who would make him redo his work if he used the wrong sized paperclip. Many people on here have said that there is a good work/life balance, but I would disagree. They will give you set hours to work, but if you leave on time, it is frowned upon. Many people slave away at their desks hours after they could have left even when there are not urgent deadlines just so they won't get into trouble. I have known people there that would work 12 hour days every day. Worst of all, management fires people in groups every couple of months. You may walk in one day and a bunch of desks will be empty. There is never a rhyme or reason for any of these firings, they just tell people they "are not a good fit." They hire really smart people but no one sticks around very long. If they are not fired, they just end up leaving on their own when they realize that their dedication and talents will be much more appreciated almost anywhere else. Lastly, you will not learn any skills at this company that are related to the outside world. This company uses a direct mail model and outdated technology that was obsolete years ago. Nothing you do at MBI is relevant anywhere else in marketing and you will likely learn useless skills that you cannot take with you when you leave.

Pros

Extremely nice managers, great place as a safety net to boost confidence and hone political, memo writing, and project management skills during your first job. PBM is a pretty swell guy. Strangely enough I consider PBM, but not any of the others immediately below him as people I could trust with my honest opinion.

Cons

Antiquated, political, not transparent even though top managers claim to be. Some VPs appear to have climbed to the top despite their sheer mediocrity (probably because no one good wanted to stay long enough to take on the role). The other half are sadly wasted talent -- they're smart people who could do well anywhere else but because they've sunk 10, 15 years into the company and old industry it's too hard to translate their skills elsewhere. (Plus they won't be compensated nearly the same.) The top leadership has lost sight of the bigger picture; instead of revolutionizing the small industry they're in or distinguishing their value, they are following a step behind competitors like Bradford. The hierarchy once you enter is: Assistant -> Associate -> Program Manager -> Director -> VP. At each level, once you grasp the process, you're basically a glorified copy editor. Weirdly enough the Marketing Assistants are rarely promoted to the Program Manager level even though they are the ones closest to the process. It's not like the Program Managers are doing any risky thinking or stratagems anyway, everything is formula based.

Pros

- good pay - comfortable office - cheap cafeteria

Cons

I will have to echo all of the negative reviews on this page. I recently took a look at MBI's homepage and saw several employees who were fired for reporting harassment and discrimination at the workplace.. of course, they kept the photos of them on the website to advertise their supposed "diversity" - if you are diverse in any way at all, look elsewhere, please. Do not join this extremely toxic workplace where they pit employee against employee and do not listen to the genuine concerns of women and POC. This is the type of place where people cry in the bathroom on a weekly basis, where people are kept in fear, and where the smallest mistakes can get you fired.
