Don't believe the hype

Pros

Lots of people with ideas and some actually have substance - but they're few and far between Lots of space in the office - very few people for the size of office Close to transport links and the ASDA nearby. Fruit and lots of lovely people who've been there forever! Lots of encouragement to post positive reviews on Glassdoor, hence the rating...

Cons

Don't believe the hype on Glassdoor - this is a declining business that isn't going anywhere, at best it's stagnant. Ask the business "when did you last win a new customer (organically)?" MDS survives thanks to its existing customer base, which in any business declines over time... that's why you always need new customers. Lots of people with no drive, passion or energy - from the top to the bottom Has been doing what it's doing for some 20 years - if it's so great, why aren't they bigger? Utterly incompetent managers are happily tolerated. If you have a manager who performs an annual review in half an hour without listening to a word the employee says, then HR needs to act on the feedback, not ignore it.

Time to get real

Pros

Good flexible working hours. Some lovely people have worked with.

Cons

Too many management tiers. Extra Management Tier introduced in restructure where 16 people got made redundant. HR are not interested in your welfare, just clock watching and trying to catch people out. Location is a nightmare.

Thank you for your review. As HR Director here at MDS I wanted to take the time to reply personally to your review. A number of months ago, we completed a departmental organisation change here at MDS to improve capability and acknowledge that, with any business this can create a period of unrest for individuals. We’re very lucky at MDS to have a team of very talented and passionate employees who work hard and I also have a HR team who care about our people and their welfare. We continually strive for our people to achieve high standards and partly, this is within our company policies and procedures. Any cause for concern will be managed on a case by case basis. We offer our employees flexible working which allows them a great balance of work and life. If you would like to take time to speak to me directly about your feedback then please feel free to contact me directly or at careers@mdscem.com

Continuous Let Down

Pros

Opportunity to progress if you have the right manager Technical SME - There are some very intelligent and nice people at MDS and these are the ones who matter Fast paced & demanding - Sink or swim, right for those who thrive in this environment MDS is good to get what you need but there is no real career prospects New CEO will hopefully take MDS to where it needs to be and make the changes necessary

Cons

Lack of Investment - MDS are 'behind the times' when it comes to technology and are adverse to change. Too many opinions from those who don't fully understand the actual needs for the business because they are not close enough to the detail. So the wrong decisions are made or not made at all. Strategy - There is no CTO and therefore no real data/technology strategy to drive the business forward. Instead there are senior managers (who have only ever worked at MDS) who have little real industry knowledge. This leads to uninspiring leaders who drive an 'empire building' culture. Don't listen - Managers don't value the opinions and don't listen to those who have good ideas and so nothing changes. Those which do listen have little power to influence any change from a senior level. Demanding.- Under staffed on some departments (due to recent redundancies) yet other departments have too much resource because no real thought went into the redundancy structure - it was simply to cut cost. Those who are good are relied on heavily which others take advantage of, not enough drive or focus to ensure everyone is doing their own roles and doing them well. Hostility - There are personal agendas which affects business relationships. One senior person in particular thrives from intimidation, bullying and continuous complaints/grievances being raised making a toxic work environment.
