The pay. Realize entry level/assistant roles historically (especially in this industry) pay poorly. However, severe inflation and the cost of living has not been addressed in recent years. Plus, executives could not do their jobs without assistants running the show behind the scenes and making sure they look good. Those at the top continue to get raises and live very comfortably, while assistants are always turned down when the topic of a little more money is brought up. It can be hard to see and hear about. We just want to be able to gain valuable experience, work with people we admire, and still afford to stay in LA. Yes, these are coveted positions, but higher ups shouldn’t take advantage of that and use it as an excuse of why raises aren’t a semi-regular occurrence. Cut costs in other ways if it means assistants feel valued, and continue working at the level that is required.
