Stay away - MacEwan’s Business School Dean on a mission to destroy the morale!
Pros
There used to be a warm collegiality working at MacEwan school of business, now it is all one upmanship and purely transactional.
Cons
While change is necessary and in an important aspect of shrugging off organizational inertia, it needs to be brought about in a positive, supporting and optimistic leadership style. What is being currently experienced after a year of the new Dean taking over the department is as follows: - Everything is wrong the way things were done at the School of Business - ‘I am the only expert in town and everyone else is wrong. (It is my way or the high way)’ is the Dean’s position. The 150-odd faculty/staff working at MacEwan don’t know a thing - ‘I will say what I want and do what I want’, you better keep your views to yourself – that is the way the Dean functions - a very intimidating style indeed! - Transparency is professed and preached but hardly practiced It would be a fair comment in the last one-year majority of the school’s faculty and regular staff members are very disheartened with this style of leadership. From a sense of caring for and supporting fellow colleagues, it has now turned in to a circus where everyone is in to ‘one upmanship’ to please the Dean and perhaps working at cross purposes. Not the best of places to seek a job, stay away!
