A collection of driven, smart, and kind people. One of the most constructive work environments I have ever been in. I met people that will be my friends and colleagues until the day I die. I grew in ways I could not have comprehended before working here.

Cons

Burn out. Do NOT apply here if you do not want to eat, sleep, and drink Software Consulting. Type-A personalities will excel. Your worth is measured by your ability to grit your teeth and smile through unreasonable situations. The more you do so, the more they expect you to handle these situations without complaint. Management measures the effort of a task by how difficult it was for themselves, personally, and often have little patience for those struggling with tasks that they have deemed trivial. It can be difficult and frustrating to change their mind once they've made it up.

The past year+ was extremely challenging, and people across industries have struggled with burnout. We did our best to support employees through rest and relaxation days, company-sponsored wellness weeks, and optional social events. We are doubling down on programs like these going forward. Underpaid; Exploitative Management

Pros

If you're foreign, they will eventually (probably) get you a green card. Some of the events are fun. Other consultants at the company are generally pleasant and fun.

Cons

Management that falsely boasts about caring about workers and being transparent. Poor/little-to-no work life balance. Lots of unpaid overtime - working weekends is common. Pay you between 50 and 75% what their competitors do, and they generally pay you less than 25% what they bill you for. People at the lower levels consistently have to work extra to cover up the mistakes of middle and upper management. Raises are subjective and completely dependent on how much one person in upper management likes you. Little PTO. Teaches you no useful skills that you can use later in your career because they sneak in a no-compete agreement into your 'benefits.' Some people (fortunately not myself) get put on client sites which add hours of daily commuting, the costs of which management does not cover. Frequent mistakes by HR/Finance which takes months to fix. Management is dismissive of consultants identifying risks/problems in projects. Management games quality-of-workplace surveys in their favor.

The opportunity to be challenged and experience accelerated career growth is core to our work hard, play hard culture. I, myself, have experienced intense career growth over the past 7 years at Macedon - far more opportunity that I would have had any other company and more than my peers from school have seen. As a rapidly growing organization, we are continuously evaluating what aspects of the business need to change over time. We recently announced to our staff that we will be making changes to our approach to vacation time, parental leave and other benefits to adjust to the needs of our employees. We will continue to evaluate and make changes as the organization grows and evolves.

Lots of growth opportunities. It seems like hard work is usually recognized, and bonuses are rewarded for overtime, which is pretty cool. Monthly continuous reviews are enforced, allowing you to keep track of your progress throughout the year. The annual bonuses and benefits are really good for a company of this size. Monthly events, ranging from Laser Tag to Happy Hours. Macedon has lots of these and they are really fun. You will be surrounded by people who know appian inside and out. Lots of people to learn from. Upper management feels accessible, though most people at the director level and above work remotely. The CEO is very approachable and seems to care about employee success.

Cons

Compared with salaries in the area posted on glassdoor and other sites, the salaries for Macedon are lacking. Some of the more important hr trainings are brief and feel like an after thought, like the diversity training, sexual harassment, etc It appears that when concerns are escalated to upper/middle management, they may be met with defensiveness or excuses. Sometimes it feels like issues disappear entirely with no clear resolution. The company culture can feel unprofessional. Many people in leadership do not seem to have a sense of their position in the company hierarchy and how that should inform their interactions with employees.
