Pros

Flexibility/Life-Work Balance- MM is flexible and encourages a life-work balance that is so important to me. I like that I don't get slack messages all night after work and on the weekends. Also, flex work is great! Support/Coaching- the Executive team is really great, and I find that multiple members of the upper management team have mentored and coached me, helping me reach my career goals. After a year in my position, I was ready for a career shift when a position within the company opened up that I was very passionate about. To my surprise, I found that I had so much support from the team even though it meant hiring and rearranging the teams. After a few months in transition, I am loving my new position! Freedom to create: If you have an idea, you can bring it to life at MachineMetrics! Incredible People: Working with so many smart people makes work fun! When everyone around is working hard and pushing towards the goal, it makes your own work feel more valuable as a contributor. I have never worked with such a great, and caring group of people.

Cons

The manufacturing industry was new to me when I started, and getting up to speed on the lingo and industry overall was a challenge. I still have a lot to learn after over a year. Although we now have internal product training, I think there is more room for improvement around onboarding new employees when it comes to industry education. Additionally, the departmental onboarding was not well developed at the time I was added, but I was the first hire for the department, so it was to be expected. I have personally onboarded a couple employees now, and I found myself creating the training program for the positions since there really wasn't anything available. This is to be expected with a young start-up, and I quite enjoyed creating the training. However, this is not for everyone, so if you need structured education, you may find this learning curve challenging.

Cons

Possibly the parking situation? I haven't had anything to complain about yet.

Pros

As a "startup" company (5 years as of 2019) they offer good salaries and the opportunity to work on very interesting problems. The work is intense but the demands a reasonable: nobody expects you to work unreasonable hours for example unless there was an emergency. It offers benefits although the health benefits were not very generous, however the good salary compensated this. Retirement benefits were good, and they offer dental insurance but no vision plan. Share options can be purchased at a lower rate (developers and engineers) but that is "icing on the cake" that should never tilt a decision to join a company.

Cons

The same "startup" mindset meant that they want results fast and they want you to conform for what they expect. Results need to be delivered quickly, there are not enough procedures in place, in other words they are still figuring out how to grow while delivering results quickly. My personal experience (this is not the case for everybody I found out) was that onboarding was lacking and I did not get the required attention and help I needed to learn the software that was being developed. In the end I discovered that it was a bad fit, which made me feel confused about what they hired me in the first place. In my opinion their expectations did align to what I could provide to the company. In terms of management they made the mistake of equating engineering brilliance with good management material, that is sometimes a mistake. This was my bad luck but also a reflection of their lack of management experience. Your mileage may vary and you may fit perfectly which explains the tile of this review.
