Pros

I believe the Gaines have the best intentions for their company, unfortunately they placed their friends in positions of leadership and they’re running it into the ground. I came from a very intense company, so it was nice that only 8-5 hours were expected and that you could bring family (or pets) into headquarters and no one would bat an eye. They also would have sample parties and bring in free food (I ate enough cupcakes to last me a lifetime). Also most people who work their are genuinely nice and want to work to see the company do the best. This is a great place to work if you don’t eeally have career ambitions and simply want to get your hours in then go home!

Cons

My experience will be slightly different than some due to the leadership team I was working under. A combination of lack of experience and insecurity ran the department to the ground. Rather than hiring the best, they want to hire “yes” people with little experience that don’t know any better so they don’t look incompetent. The leadership team in this group has lost the company millions and rather than take responsibility and try to fix it, they find a scapegoat. I’ve also never been lied to by my leadership as much (or seen leadership lie as much to others) as I have during my time at Magnolia. Also, if you are seen as a threat (because you possess common sense) they’ll push you out to replace you with a 27 yr old with no experience (not me, but someone else I know). The company also has a poor communication system set up which makes it run extremely inefficient. Also, they low ball all of their employees when it comes to pay (unless you are connected with the Gaines, then you’ll be taken care of and join the Range Rover club!) If you have career goals, don’t expect to excel here (unless of course your in the friend zone). If you have experience, be prepared to have a lot of frustration about how things are run (but don’t be too vocal or they might boot you!) Also be prepared for a fake friendly culture that’ll make most gag it’s so ingenuine. Most of the employees there think they are on a sky rocket and there is no where for the company to go but up (but then again this is their first job), but even the mighty fall eventually

Pros

Decent Pay Fine Health Care Nice Company Structure

Cons

They view themselves as a family, but it isn't a family since they can fire you at any point. I don't believe workplaces should try to be a family because it causes boundaries to become blurred. You can't just show up and do your job well, they also want to "give feedback" on your personality, your personal decisions, and how you are wired. I understand that people need to fit into the work culture, however they want everyone to be exactly the same. It was incredibly demoralizing to work there. The Management plays favorites and clearly cares about the power dynamic and keeping the upper hand. I loved the work, but hated the drama and the manipulation. I have had nightmares about the time I worked there and I had to quit because the anxiety and stress was hurting my health.

Pros

Looks good on resume. Easy to make friends with coworkers.

Cons

Cult-like mentality. Employees constantly pushing religious beliefs on you and convincing you to go to their church. If you are not religious and do not take part in the constant group prayers at work, you will be treated poorly. Management lacks experience. They move people up who have only worked at Magnolia straight out of Baylor. No real world experience, no leadership skills and no retail operational skills. If you have a retail background do not work here. You will realize quickly that it is not a properly run retail entity and no one will listen to you if you have ideas or just basic retail knowledge that they lack.
