Pros

The only reason for a 3 is because of 90% of the staff, (nurses, paramedics, most doctors and most lower staff) are GREAT!!! Hospital gives t-shirts multiple times a year, has a fully loaded snack cart, food trucks, etc.

Cons

Management is horrible. Legitimate concerns including patient safety concerns about employee competency are brushed off or ignored completely. The focus is keeping “warm bodies” on the schedule, not whether those people are actually capable of doing the job safely and effectively. Leadership across multiple levels avoids confrontation instead of addressing problems directly, which creates a toxic and frustrating work environment. There is little to no opportunity for growth unless you’re part of the “right” social circle. Some employees seem to keep positions based more on personal relationships with leadership than actual performance or qualifications. On top of that, the health insurance costs are outrageously expensive for what employees deal with daily.

The culture they have is fake.

Pros

There are some employees who are great to work with and are great at what they do. They have some great employee celebrations and do some good things to thank employees (coffee twice a week from Smokey Row and a snack cart that is wheeled around to the departments.

Cons

Health benefit costs are outrageous. The CEO literally allows providers to do ANYTHING. The Exec team will present false numbers to the board to make it look like departments and services are meeting or exceeding expectations. Even if you have great yearly evaluations, that does not guarantee your position. If they deem that you do not fit their “culture”, then you are at risk. There are many long term employees who are toxic to the organization. These employees will create cliques and draw in newer employees that will feed off of the drama. They will create drama when they do not agree with decisions or changes. Advancements are limited. Since providers are running the show, their wants are fulfilled before department needs are approved. The Exec Team is a clique in itself. Rather than promoting important department directors to the Exec Team, they create new Chief positions for physicians and appointment them to the board.

Pros

If you are someone fresh out of college and looking to get your first job this is a great place to start, very relaxed environment while also giving the opportunity to learn new things. The work life balance is very good. Learning and testing new products are something that is encouraged, if you can make a case for something you would like to implement you have the chance to do that.

Cons

There are times not all processes are followed making for sudden interruptions in your day where you are pulled to get something done without prior notice. The IT department is responsible for supporting many products that aren't necessarily IT related which can lead to very mundane task and wasted time with vendor support. The room for long term employment in the IT department is very small once you reach Technology Engineer there isn't anything else to work towards that hits a different pay scale. The Hospital is growing but the support departments as a whole seem to be staying the same there is a lot more work being requested by departments that is stretched across the same people.
