Pros

1. Flexible schedule 2. No interview, anybody can get a job here

Cons

1. TERRIBLE pay. You will get paid $70 per 1000 word article. Doesn't sound too bad at first. Then consider that MUO lists you as a "freelancer" so they don't have to pay ANY benefits. No health insurance, no 401K, nothing. Then realize you will be legally considered self employed. That means you will be paying a high tax rate. About 27%. With all things considered your effective pay is about half what they offer. About $35 per 1000 words. It's impossible to survive in the USA or Europe with the low pay rate. Actually their business model is to employee as many workers from developing countries as possible, that way they can keep wages as low as possible. 2. Anybody can work here. It's a double edged sword. The editors are there because they don't have the talent or skills to work anywhere else. Often you will have pointless feedback, and their "corrections" to your articles add awkward sentences or even ADD spelling and grammar mistakes. 2. A lot of bad editors A lot of editors at MUO are not only incompetent but they have a bad attitude.

You can build your portfolio, though they do not promise to keep your byline on articles once you leave them.

Cons

Low pay They want their writers to do everything for them but they don't pay enough to make it worth their while
