Pros

The ethos and cause are great. If you only focus on the impact that you're having towards fostering a maker mindset in youngsters then you will enjoy the work.

Cons

The top management seems to not care much about the welfare of their employees (maker mentors) the pay is very low, and the admin system is quite haphazard and not streamlined enough. They encourage you to give feedback and improvement suggestions but tangible outcomes are sparse and slow.

Pros

The role offers a great balance of flexibility and meaningful impact, especially for anyone who enjoys teaching and problem-solving. Mentoring students through the design, build, and troubleshooting process is both challenging and fulfilling, and it’s great to see their confidence grow as they learn new technical and teamwork skills. The time commitment is manageable, and expectations are clearly communicated, making it easy to balance with college or other work. While the role does require patience and the ability to adapt explanations to different learning styles, the collaborative environment and supportive team make it enjoyable. Overall, it’s a great opportunity to share technical knowledge, and inspire students in STEM in a hands-on, practical way. You get to interact with the founding team directly and participate in a lot of new age initiatives that they are building.

Cons

Getting in all hours in can feel slightly tough in certain weeks. It’s important to convey your availability in a timely manner so that the schedules can be managed for everyone.
