Pros

I was looking for reviewers from authors before I signed, but could not find any, so I decided to share my experience. My experience with Manning Publications as an author was very negative. As expected, the contract terms were highly skewed to their advantage. They failed to specify when they would do certain actions like pay royalties, but they specify clearly the timeline when you need to finish work. They fail to fully pay you and make excuses not to. Marjan is very stingy and try to keep every cent, even money that is owed to you according to the contract. Very weird accounting practices for royalties and I and other authors suspected that they did not actually pay me what I was owed. They tried to outsource everything for free. They don't pay technical reviewers or technical editors which lead to horrible work. Horrible, unprofessional. If I could do it again, I would have picked a different publisher.

Cons

Avoid. They really advantage of novice writers. I would try a larger more professional publishers.

Pros

Highly technical publisher, with some excellent publications and a fair number of good people on its staff. Some of the books are true marvels, while most books that make it to publication are quite good at the very least. It can be tough to work there, but the products are truly worth it.

Cons

The owner, who is very talented and at times inspiring, but also irascible and wilful. Too many employees spend their time with trying to stay on the right side of the owner of the company. Plus they don't really implement many of their ideas, so it feels surprisingly old-fashioned at times.

Great Employees, Insufferable Management

Pros

A group of talented employees from all around the globe that are friendly and easy to work with

Cons

A man-child for an owner that has no idea what he's doing at any second of the day. Refuses to listen to best practices that employees have expertise in. Berates employees regularly (has referred to entire departments as "uncultured" in meetings).
