Pros

Engineering empathy was real in my org. During my ramp up period, my team was extremely supportive. The work is undoubtedly interesting and challenging, especially the company's investment in the self-driving car sector.

Cons

I worked in the CSE (Customer Support / Engagement) org. I was hired in summer 2022 during a hiring acceleration within the company, and laid off alongside many of my colleagues in CSE (engineers, account managers / sales, etc.) in early 2023. HR was very compassionate and helpful post-layoff, but my direct manager dropped from the layoff notice call 1 minute in. My laptop was locked without warning at noon, giving me just enough time to upload my locally saved resources to cloud. So fairly unceremonious sendoff, but standard at US companies. I concluded that I was hired to show investors growing headcount and let go because I was being paid more than my peer engineers (after 1 round of salary negotiation) though equitably for the work and my level in Support. I have read many articles (of debatable credibility) as to whether or not the company is truly profitable. I (and others) were laid off specifically because the CSE org was not at that moment in time.
