Pros

Established company, Artwork represented is quality, Convenient and Prestigious locations, Excellent Marketing.

Cons

The artwork rarely sells at its retails values, which reduces the amount of money an art consultant that works for the company can make. Also, by consistently offering the art at values below there claimed retail values, the gallery is in affect lowering the value of the artworks its clients are purchasing.

Pros

It's nice to be surrounded by fine art.

Cons

The owner is unethical and the business practices are probably illegal. You will receive no benefits, work nights, weekends and major holidays for no salary. The job is 100% commission on sales (5% to 15%). The gallery locations are in B to C malls with long hours and patrons who are not qualified to purchase art ranging in price from $500 to $1,000,000. Should you manage to make a decent sale your commission will be reduced because 'you didn't charge enough for shipping or sales tax', the owner 'paid so much for this print that your commission will be reduced' etc. etc, etc. If you know anything about art you will have to stuff it. The 'gold art' (living artists are mostly hacks but you get a higher commission selling their gaudily framed prints for 30x what they are worth. The 'blue' art - as in Blue Chip consists of Picasso, Miro, Dali, Warhol prints. The usual suspects - 20th mass producers. Some good, some weak - all over priced and cheaply framed. We were told to sell the works on paper as 'archivally, museum framed'. In fact they are under the poorest quality plastic wit no UV protection. Lots of lying and cheating with Martin Lawrence. Buyer beware, potential sales consultant beware.
