Pros

There are great people here who deserve better.

Cons

Another reviewer mentioned Devil Wears Prada.... if only. Mary is so self absorbed and out-of-touch, she didn’t even know the reference, nor did she care enough to look into the movie (playing on any cable network let alone YouTube clips). When I interviewed, I mentioned the negative reviews here which were shrugged off as “bad seeds” - only to realize that more than eight people were fired in less than a year between 2017-2018 (out of 30’ish). Mary asked people to write favorable reviews on Glassdoor... see any??? The only good thing about working at Mary Cook Associates is not working with Mary herself. The designers are extremely talented but outside of what you learned in previous jobs or school you will learn NOTHING. Just look at Mary’s book ‘Art of Space.’ Enough said. Dated, much like Mary herself. If you are a designer, it’s possible you may enjoy working here. If you are front end, good luck. Mary has surrounded herself with friends who work inside the office as trolls reporting every bit of information at all times. Think big brother only big sister. She is relentless with her criticisms going so far as to openly tell clients and colleagues inaccurate and defaming accusations of her own employees. If you are considering MCA for any position, do yourself a huge favor and look elsewhere. There is a much better opportunity for you ANYWHERE else!

Pros

Wonderful peers and support system, freedom, flex hours, fun work outings, good benefits and hours. Lots of responsibility and creative freedom if you choose to take advantage.

Cons

Top heavy on management. Too many people delegating, client relations, accounting, administrative, etc... But not enough support on design/production side. Compensation is terrible. Mary's CFO will nickel and dime you for every penny. Jobs become monotonous and repetitive. In other words, once you've done 5 models, you've done them all. If you are hired as a project designer there is fairly little vertical growth within the company. Travel can be exhausting.

Pros

There are some genuinely nice people in the office, which made going to work bearable. They plan fun celebrations for employee birthdays, weddings, etc. The pay is decent. The office is located right off the brown line.

Cons

The biggest issue was Mary herself -- condescending, arrogant and makes employees feel stupid. She is a talented designer, but her ego and lack of communication makes working directly under her incredibly difficult. No amount of money was worth dealing with her daily. Employee turnover rate is VERY high.
