An interesting startup with quite a few challenges
Pros
The engineering work at MasonHub was truly interesting and very modern/top tier. The problems that they were working on solving are interesting and challenging. Because it is a start-up you also get to take ownership of what you'd like and start having an impact early. Teammates were quick to help if they could. Remote first policy allows a great deal of flexibility. The learning one can experience as an engineer can be great. Base pay is great.
Cons
there were layoffs on 12/15/2022, 10 days before Christmas that spanned a great deal of the engineering team. the severance package was also fairly lacking (think a small fraction of what other start ups at the time offered). The company was growing/hiring consistently until it was not and there was no real communication from above that there were such significant headwinds at all. The team was consistently swamped in work which would lead to interesting features/products having to be pushed off to address problems or bugs we currently have which stifled growth on the engineering side. While intra team communication was great, cross team communication was lacking and it almost felt like two separate companies. Typical benefits such as healthcare and retirement are lacking but that is common to start ups. Equity lagged behind other start up packages as well.
