Pros

The Job centre is next door Theres a Nando's nearby Theres a Starbucks near too They have a kettle My desk was nice There are some good shops around (although you won't get paid so spend wisely!)

Cons

All I can say is stay away! my interview here was positive we discussed the role in detail as this was also my past role and I had a lot of experience in this position everything sounded great and the studio seemed nice although I realised nobody was talking to one another I just assumed at the time they were busy/had deadlines or were listening in! it's open plan. I started two days later I was promised a salary of £25k to start asap so I went for it, my first morning I had a meeting to discuss what projects were coming up but I was talked at for about 20 mins regarding their cash flow problems (alarm bells started ringing) I did wonder how they would pay me at the end of the month but naively assumed that money would be already allocated. The first task I was asked to do didn't relate to my new role and it wasn't a learning task it was a big task thrown right in at the deep end, I was a little confused as this wasn't discussed in my interview and wasn't related to the job role at all however it was something I had done before but had not been mentioned anywhere on my CV, I got on with it hoping to impress and imagining they wanted me to see all aspects of the business. This went on for 3 days by which point I asked to speak to somebody about my role, I asked to speak to somebody as I had just been briefed on the months ahead and my tasks and not one single one related to my role in anyway shape or form and was never discussed prior to me starting or in my interview even if I had grasped the new tasks I would never have had the time to do it on top of all the other tasks. I expressed my concerns calmly and asked why the role had changed significantly and almost completely and I was shocked to say the least by the irrational childish response I received, I was shouted at in an unprofessional and actually quite frightening way and told that this was life and 'yeh the role has changed but deal with it' considering my professional and calm approach I was utterly shocked. Most importantly I received zero training I wasn't even told the passwords to the various systems used, and when I asked nobody knew them, when I asked to shadow another employee as I was asked to they told me 'no' I asked if maybe I could later or tomorrow and the same response. I must say the other employees/interns were lovely on a personal level but were too busy and scared to help for fear of missing their own deadlines or being bullied by management. Nobody talked to each other unless management were out of the office. Obviously I left and I am still waiting to be paid.....

Pros

None really - unless you like the party lifestyle, which is very much part of the working day at Mawi

Cons

Incredibly stressful place to work. Ramshackle of a company run by two people who know nothing about employment law. One member of management will smoke illegal substances at his desk during business meetings. Bullying, racism and game playing are more important here than business strategy. Rent and bills regularly unpaid. Salaries often unpaid - you have to wait a few days or weeks to get your salary. People encouraged to work late, weekends and even through holiday to meet ridiculous requirements. And yet being late by 30 mins will see your salary docked by half a day. People fired left right and centre and being bullied into leaving. Unpaid overworked interns. Inappropriate relationships.

One of the worst managers I've ever met.

Pros

Great team, met some lovely people I'm still in contact with.

Cons

Unfortunately, I soon realised that there were major internal issues in the company, including a bullying culture, dishonesty from senior management to employees as well as major financial issues at stake leading soon to the brand's closure. The CEO is someone who does nothing all day but play with his phone and is rude to his staff constantly with no respect to their skills or the amount of work they are dealing with on a daily basis. Every time I had to work with him on important company strategy I was talking to a brick wall who could not understand a suggestion and was constantly trying to intimidate me. Every single member of the core team that I met when I first joined the company has either left or has been fired because they could not afford to pay them anymore which speaks volumes about the current state of the company.
