Pros

Getting to learn a lot about general aviation and about private jets and part 135/91 operations. The pilots are very knowledgeable and help in any way they can. Making contacts outside of the company.

Cons

Letting someone be a supervisor who is unqualified just because they have been there the longest makes for a very uncomfortable work environment. When there is an issue and employees try to talk to upper management, the problems don't seem to be resolved. Upper management and the new supervisor text back and forth about current employees. They would rather hire young, inexperienced, non-licensed employees just so they do not have to pay more money. Dealing with part of the sales department. There are some people who are unable to handle someone telling them no and there are some people who expect another department to do their job that they are getting a rather large commission for. Since it's a small company, disrespect between people is an ongoing thing.

They don't get it and probably never will...

Pros

Get to work on privately owned planes.

Cons

Clearly top management shoots from the hip when making decisions for the owner of the company. And the owner is oblivious to what the hired hands are doing to workers/employees insofar as turnover, morale and general frustration. Blame is always pushed off onto someone else, responsibility and accountability are only for the few that are on the front line.

Pros

There are some really talented people that work for Mayo Aviation. That is probably the only "pro" that I have come across during my time with them.

Cons

This place is unstable at best. Management is schizophrenic and changes processes and procedures almost every day. Work life balance is nearly non-existent and expectations of employees are beyond what is considered fair and normal. Everyone ends up doing the job of multiple people. Beware, this company doesn't offer paid holidays at all. Instead of culture of accountability and respect, there is culture of blame and accusation. Company is trying to change their culture, but that starts at the top.

Mayo Aviation Response

First, let me apologize for my tardiness in responding to your review. Mayo Aviation very recently partnered with Glassdoor which allows me to do so. Thank you sincerely for your feedback. It is something we value greatly. I am happy to see you comment that you have some talented teammates. Indeed! Mayo has some very talented individuals working here. We would like them to know that they do not go unnoticed! Secondly, thank you for your feedback regarding processes and procedures. Senior management is highly aware of the need to revamp those and have been working with staff bi-weekly to create and implement those. I would relish the opportunity to sit down with you and talk candidly about Mayo's benefits and how you think we might improve them. Just this week we have actively taken steps to improve not only our benefits but employee communication and education about those benefits. Given that Mayo Aviation is a 24/7 business, paid holidays are not offered, however Mayo Aviation does offer a very generous PTO policy (3 weeks your first year) which should allow ample opportunity to spend time with family or to get away. We are taking some steps in the very near future to enhance this and improve and encourage work/life balance. Thank you again for taking the time to offer your feedback, it is invaluable. Sincerely, Stephanie Mueller Manager of Human Resources
