Pros

You get to work fully from home, lots of PTO

Cons

I'm feeling a little overwhelmed and not sure where to start. The Student Success Advisors are expected to handle more and more responsibilities. We are a dumping ground for everyone else's problems. The staff on the Enrollment side constantly tries to throw us under the bus by saying things like the SSA's should have to "work more on the weekends" and accuse us of never calling our students back when the fact is we all have about 700 or more students and none of them know how to use a computer. Enrollment doesn't hesitate to enroll students who are completely incompetent and want to take an online program with no understanding of how to allow pop ups or what an internet browser is. They enroll students who barely speak any English and are so toxic that having a civil professional conversation with them is nearly impossible. And then guess who has to deal with these people? If you want to apply for this job, have plenty of IT experience because you will spend most of your time explaining computer knowledge to these students. We are expected to not only have a ton of talk time, but none of our administrative work matters. All they care about is call numbers. It doesn't matter if you have a million emails and text messages, you better hit your call numbers or else you will get talked to. Management doesn't actually want to hear any of our concerns or complaints. If something is brought up during a meeting then we are asked to bring it to them "in private". Then at that point it never goes anywhere. The turnover is terrible, and it takes them months and months to bring on new Student Success Advisors. So in the meantime we are all drowning trying to keep up with the students that were left behind. MedCerts also refuses to hire more Career Coaches, and so managing literally the entire load of all of the graduated MedCerts students is all of 3 or 4 Career Coaches. To top it all off, the other day they announced they would be requiring the new Advisors to work more hours on the weekend, but asked the existing Advisors that if we were interested to "volunteer" to work more on the weekends. Only 2 or 3 Advisors volunteered. So they decided to make it mandatory and requested (last minute) that we all work more hours on the weekend that immediate week. Thankfully there was enough outpouring of anger from the Student Success Advisors that they pitched this idea. When I first interviewed for this job, I was careful to make sure this was not a call center. Now, that's all it is. A call center with horrible leadership that just doesn't care about its Student Success Advisors doing all the dirty work.

Thank you so much for your review! We're glad you were able to take advantage of our generous PTO policies and remote opportunities. We feel these two things are essential to the success of our organization and work-life balance for our team members. We are so sorry to hear about the negative experience you've had in our Student Services team, we hear feedback like yours and are working hard to make changes to improve our organization. In the past few years, we've implemented several new policies to ensure we are hearing feedback from team members at all levels and have increased our team sizes to make sure no team member is overloaded. Our Student Services team has onboarded 18 new team members to help with our increasing student numbers and we've maintained under a 12% attrition rate throughout the year. 22% of the department also earned promotions into new roles. We are working diligently to increase and improve our employer partnerships to be able to match more students with clinicals and jobs. We will continue to evaluate our processes for all departments and continue to make improvements to ensure our team is proud to work at MedCerts. – Gwen Jackson, People & Culture Partner, peopleops@medcerts.com

Pros

-Remote work from home -Amazing coworkers -Easy work, albeit mind-numbing

Cons

-Leadership is incompetent with zero communication skills (and emails ripe with grammatical errors). -Management has a complete inability to admit if they don't know the answer to a question; instead, they will stretch the truth or "circle back later" (hint: they won't). -Educational call center focused solely on profit and not student outcomes; enrollment is praised for high numbers, but students report being strong-armed into enrolling before they're ready, Advisors end up with hundreds of students who should never have been enrolled in the first place. -Insanely unrealistic caseloads (800+ students); the enrollment department continues to grow in order to enroll more students (and therefore increase profit), while the advising department remains the same size, completely unable to serve their students. -Call center mentality - this is not academic advising in any way, shape, or form. This job is stricly call center customer service and technical support. 98% of the day revolves around teaching students what an internet browser is, or how to clear cookies. If you have a master's degree, do not bother applying for this job - your education and experience will do nothing but infuriate you and make you wonder why you aren't able to do actual work with students. -Management constantly micromanages in a way that is beyond insulting. You will never be trusted to do your job without constant half-assed oversight. -Some of the programs MedCerts offered are a joke. How can an educational organization offer phlebotomy and EKG programs without also setting these students up with a clinical site for certification? Students go through these programs, pass their certification exam, and can never find a clinical location to complete this certification. What does that mean? In essence, the entire program is pointless because they cannot finish up the final piece of the puzzle. It feels almost criminally negligent to offer programs we know students cannot succeed in. -To that end, it's a little terrifying that MedCerts students can take a patient-facing program online and then get a job without ever having any clinical experience - such as the medical assistant program. -Zero communication or understanding between departments. This causes nonstop, widespread problems. Increased communication has been a constant suggestion to management, but has consistently been shot down.

Thank you so much for your feedback! We're so glad you were able to work with some of the incredible team members at MedCerts and take advantage of our remote opportunities. We're sorry to hear about the negative experiences you had while employed here. As a growing organization, we've worked hard to make changes to improve our leadership and overall team member experience. In 2022, our student services team onboarded 18 new team members to meet the needs of our students and provide a better work-life balance. We've also implemented new processes to allow team members to provide better feedback, including office hours, opportunities to speak to the VP of Student Success directly, 360 performance reviews and anonymous team member surveys. We will continue to evaluate these processes and make improvements to ensure we are creating a positive work environment and maintaining our "student-first" mission. – Gwen Jackson, People & Culture Partner, peopleops@medcerts.com

DO NOT INTERVIEW WITH THIS PLACE

Pros

There are no pros to this company. It is an awful company full of scam artists.

Cons

I recently observed the extensive interview process conducted by Medcerts for an entry-level position, where my peer underwent five interviews. Regrettably, despite the candidate's investment of time and effort, no job offer materialized. The company also disclosed that it was between this candidate and one other. Who says that? So unprofessional. This experience raises concerns about the efficiency and outcome of the company's hiring procedures, prompting a need for improvement in its approach to candidate evaluation. This company also has terrible reviews from actual students and they are not accredited. Stay far away from them.

We appreciate your feedback and the opportunity to enhance our interview and hiring processes. While we understand that a pre-screening and four interviews may seem like a significant commitment, we want to assure you that this is not our typical process. Due to the holidays and pre-planned PTO, some interviews had to be separated in this particular instance. However, please know that we recognize the time and effort candidates invest in our interview process, and we strive to make it as efficient and respectful as possible. While this role is entry level, it plays a crucial role within our organization and meeting with several members of the team ensures both a role and culture fit. Additionally, transparency is one of our core values, and it guides our approach to the interview process, it is very common for us to share where a candidate is in the interview process, especially when in the final round. We believe this can set expectations with candidates and offer encouragement that they've made it to the final round of interviews. While we appreciate the investment in time and effort, not every candidate can be hired as is the nature of job interviews. As a former employee, we'd love to hear more about your individual employment experience compared to your peer's interview experiences. Your insights are valuable to us as we strive to improve our processes and make MedCerts a better place to work.
