Pros

Fun environment, nice people. It depends what team you work on. The products they have in their event portfolio are very impressive, good names to have on your CV.

Cons

No focus on career progression, very male dominated at senior level.

Pros

Made some really good friends. The people make this company, it can be quite cliquey so you have to make the effort to speak to people across the floors/ departments. Once you find people that you can have lunch with, who will make all day event networking fun or give you a hug and confidence building chat in the WC you can make it. For the sales teams (across both events and publishing) everyone is supportive because you are all working under the same pressures and their is a lot of client cross over. The CDW, GD events are top for this company and really bring in the business. Media 10 is always on the look out to buy other shows and magazines so they are always growing. Depending on which department you work in there is the opportunity for career progression...if you tow the line and put the work in. Unless you are completely awful you will not be fired, keep striving to reach call times, meeting targets and get involved with social events they will keep you. This company, especially in sales, works well for first jobbers. If you have little to no experience of how other companies work and sales are achieved you will enjoy it here. If you fit/ become part of the "family" you will probably stay here for a while.

Cons

I have tried to give a fair review but to be honest I found this company to have more cons than pros: This company is notorious for how management positions are achieved. There are many stories of female manager have been given promotions according to their relationship with male Directors. For events a lot of the girls are hired for their looks and flirting/ client relationships are smiled at and applauded of contracts are signed. Generally you have to kiss up a lot to succeed. Do not disagree or display opinions contrary to what has been directed from above (even if it is constructive). Unless you are part of the "family" you're voice is not heard and you are not considered. Make it into the family with unwavering loyalty and ruthlessness and you'll be looked after. Media 10 has a poor reputation throughout the industry. With competitors and clients - fights, back biting, under hand negotiations and poor account management (Director level btw). Some clients will ignore you (calls and in person) when they realise you are Media 10. Low pay, they get away with this because they are not based in centra London (zone 6 so accounts for why most of the workforce is Essex based) and commission targets increase consistently. Shared CRM and clients mean that you are competing within the company for client budget. On many occasions publishing will lose out to ad revenue because events will take it or offer advertising for free/ lower price in the associated magazine (which could work in your favour of your in events). Single minded attitude and achieving your target at all costs is encouraged. The majority of the magazines and two major events are not making any money. That means more pressure on the sales department, fortunately the departments that are making money have meant redundancies aren't necessary but it does means blatant favouritism. Very high staff turnover and low morale (hence toilet breaks with a co-worker are often needed). When the pressure is on expect power two hours and no tea breaks. Management are often not supportive and do not take you showing you know more than them very well at all. Often how you are spoken to is not professional. Sales is not for everyone but if you have worked somewhere else and expect a certain standard of treatment you will either be surprised or disappointed with Media 10. It's great for experience and to have on your cv is you are on a successful brand - a lot of people you leave after a year or two go on the amazing things/ salaries so every cloud...
