Toxic environment and incompetent management. My first assignment as a reporter was to produce a promotional video for this school that was building programs for students with learning difficulties. When interviewing a teenage student, I asked him how he manages to overcome his dyslexia or something like that. The school representant was in the room and apparently, she was offended that I had pronounced the D word. Instead of talking to me about it (after all, isn't it all about education and raising awareness), she complained to my boss. The next morning when coming to work, my boss was furious and yelled at me because I have upseted her precious client.
She was not that supportive towards them though when the teachers went on a strike, during which, some video contracts were cancelled or on hold. She was complaining that journalists never stop working -having to read the papers in the morning and watching the news after coming home- so she didn't get why teachers would have the nerve to go on a strike, depriving her precious business of an income. That's why this industry is doing so well right. Burnout-out rates in these sectors are eloquent. At least teachers show more solidarity among them.
Not to mention the times where she was watching over my shoulder when editing videos, stressing me beyond belief. They pretend that it's all fun with their stupid Facebook posts where they publish photos of the staff having lunch together or wearing hats for "Hats Day". Yoopi-doo.
