Do not work for Digital First Media

Pros

You'll be a journalist, which is nice.

Cons

The pay is awful. The benefits are awful. Everyone is being laid off. You'll be expected to do the work of three people for the salary of less than one. Your boss will be a cold and unaccommodating corporate cog. Your complaints and/or suggestions will not be heard or even acknowledged. You'll watch newsrooms shutter and publications fold. You'll realize, swiftly and with no small amount of despair, that there is no future at Digital First Media. You'll watch good people lose their jobs and you'll wonder when you're next. Eventually, you will be. Save yourself the years of penniless toiling. DFM is one of the largest laughing stocks of the journalism industry. Do not work for them.

Pros

Can't think of one good reason to work for this company!

Cons

Company constantly selling office space from right under employees' feet. Layoffs and cutbacks are constant. No support/respect for associates. No professional development. Company hasn't dished out raises since 2007 despite making $160 million in profits in 2017!

Pros

My peers and my customers

Cons

I have worked in many leadership roles at large corporations. My role here was as a MultiMedia Digital Consultant at the Pioneer Press/Twincities.com. I have to say, that most of the management is the absolute worst I have ever been surrounded by. Very incompetent. They do not know how to coach, provide value, establish a clear vision, create excitement, develop individuals, etc. The training is an embarrassment. People are in jobs because they have been here for 20+ not because they are qualified to be in their jobs.
