The Blind Leading the Blind

Pros

I would've given Mediagistic 1/2 a star if at all possible. But alas... Anyway -- There are a good number of employees who are talented, hardworking and friendly. Unfortunately these employees typically leave for greener pastures as soon as possible. It's a paying gig. The commute is convenient from a number of locations in the Tampa area. Oh, and lest we forget, snacks are provided!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cons

Where to start??? Like many others, I didn't receive a job description until after my hire date. On top of that, it turned out to be the wrong description. When I questioned this, I was given a non-answer about how the company would be evaluating my strengths and weaknesses. I tell people I'm an account exec. but, truth is, no one really knows their title at Mediagistic. It cannot be stated enough: there is NO TRAINING process: formal, informal or otherwise! Some (relatively) lucky souls are partnered with a "buddy", the latter of whom generally have no idea what he or she is doing either. It truly is the blind leading the blind. Despite this, managerial expectations are unduly harsh. It's as if they expect you to know every process, type of software, etc. immediately. Be prepared for criticism in order to complete a project well enough because you weren't trained properly. Which would be fair except, you guessed it: it's impossible to know how to even start on a project when you weren't trained to begin with! And, no, 3 minutes with a co-worker explaining a process that they sort of, kind of know doesn't constitute as "training". Many, many, many times my coworkers and I have tried to go straight to the horses's mouth, so to speak. However the managers are nowhere to be found for the majority of the day - nearly every day of the week. The whole organization is a mess.. Managers and other employees rarely communicate with one another. Departments don't communicate with one another. Aside from the managerial staff being a complete mess, there's also a lack of overall short-term AND long-term strategy. Some other lesser issues: the employees can be catty (makes sense because many are young girls who just graduated from college) which makes the work day especially unbearable, nepotism is rampant (some of the other Carollo's and their friends have no business cleaning toilets at McDonalds let alone being the manager or VP of a department). There is no corporate culture. If Mediagistic's "culture" were a color it would be grey. Completely bland and muddled. There are little to no opportunities for growth or promotions. I guess you can't promote someone if you don't even know what they do!

Pros

If you're able to get on the good side of management you'll end up making money even if you have no idea what you're doing. Since the majority of your co-workers are looking for jobs other places, you'll have pretty good knowledge of what positions in Tampa come open for you to apply for.

Cons

Almost everyone here fears for their job. No one knows when they're going to decide to lay people off again. We have too many people here who truly do not know what they're doing. Worst of all when it becomes blatant that these people don't know what they are doing, they wont be punished. Other people will lose their jobs. Mediagistic talks about being a happy, good work place, yet management has done nothing but show that you can't believe a word that they tell you. Management is as transparent as a black cup filled with used motor oil. One moment the company has a bright future and things are looking great. The next they're laying off a ton of people, cutting back on resources, and expecting those left there after the genocide to make up for the lack of employees. While you're expected to do more work, don't expect them to give you a raise of any sort or even any bonuses. Imagine working for a company that buys a building, pays for the set up of a huge salt water fish tank, a special Starbucks coffee machine, and has it's VPs driving around in company cars as if they're their own; yet while they're spending all of this money on these things they turn around and tell us the company is not "profitable" and there's a need to lay off more than 5 employees. Welcome to Mediagistic. There is no opportunity to move up in this company if you're not already up there with the higher ups. There is no opportunity to learn or be creative here. If you try to, prepare to get the cold shoulder. There is no unity. It's every man for themselves because everyone is worried about their job security or lack of. The light at the end of the tunnel is a freight train heading straight towards you.

Pros

- owner is old school and gives extra holidays off and turkeys during Thanksgiving - decent benefits - clean work environment with snacks

Cons

- Too many politics with executive leadership team - One VP won't let employees do their own job without interfering and causing confusion because of their ego - Unprofessional situations where your grammar is corrected in the middle of giving a presentation or there is a mistake that the VP will bring to light in public instead of in private - VP's barging into meetings yelling while on client calls - Distasteful emails that has a lot of !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! or ???????? or ????!!!!!!!!! - Favoritism to those that the VP has hired and vocal about it during staff meetings - Favoritism to certain divisions within the company - Change of rules/policies on the fly from VP's making the work environment uncomfortable and unstable - Confidential information isn't kept confidential - Managers can't make decisions on their own without consulting the VP which creates long delays on everything and causing staff to doubt or trust them - Under qualified managers - No training programs to help employees become successful for what they have been hired for - Lots of new hires express disappointment of being mislead about pay after they start and find out when they will actually get paid and how much they can actually make - Processes are a nightmare and need an outside consultant to come clean it up - Company morale at an all time low - Problems with high turn over/great talent leaving - No advancement opportunities unless someone quits and even then they don't want to give you a raise - Commission structure is very low for industry - Call center work environment that is very loud - If you like being treated like a child, you will have no problem working in sales/service for this company
