I worked at Meditech full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

-Very little responsibility. It was basically romper room with a teeny tiny paycheck

    Cons

-Inbred leadership - they ONLY hire from to the bottom rung.
-Home made coding language, they don't care if you know Java or Python. You have to learn magic, and only they can teach you.
    -Horrible pay
-They spread rumors about people who leave and how they are failures personally
-They open the supply closet once a week and record what you take from it. They don't have post it notes, they have cut pieces of paper, you have to use tape ...you read all of that right.
-No 401K, they pressure you to take part in their stock plan, but you can't until after 3 years.

    Advice to Management

They won't look, they don't care.

I have been working at Meditech full-time

    Pros

Great benefits. Good family environment. Definitely supports longevity through bonuses. Many office locations around Massachusetts. Telecommuting offered, after a few years experience.

    Cons

Large company with small company thinking. Salaries are typically very low. Middle management positions are very useless. Decision making typically involves upper level executives. This is very time consuming.

    Advice to Management

Hire more people from outside for management positions. There is a very archiac thinking within the company. The organization desperately needs a Human Resources department.

    Pros

There is a good work/life balance. The company has been around over 45 years and do not really layoff employees. Really good job security.

    Cons

No consistency within the different management teams. All decisions within each group are at the supervisor’s discretion. Salary is still somewhat below industry standards.

I have been working at Meditech full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great Benefits. Telecommute option once you've been with the company for awhile. The company really tries to take care of its employees with great benefits, covering 85% of health insurance. They throw a ridiculously huge picnic each summer for the employees and their families. Interesting work in a field that has a lot of demand right now. Company promotes from within and encourages mobility within the company should career aspirations change.

    Cons

The company would argue that the benefits package makes up for it, but the compensation compared to the industry standard is below average. Salary raises are capped at different levels, there is no room for negotiation.

    Advice to Management

Don't cap salary raises - give your employees something to really strive for each year, allow for some negotiation. Especially for your more tenured employees, pay them. They want to stay, but it gets to a point where the employee is cheating themselves if they don't look elsewhere.

I worked at Meditech full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Decent benefits
Pay so low I never had to worry about wearing myself out spending it all
With all the eyes on you, you never felt like you were being ignored
At least you don't come home smelling like french fries or coffee grounds

    Cons

    -Ancient technology
    -EXTREMELY siloed products
-Zero beta testing. Customer hospitals basically get recently-patched releases of products like the ubiquitous DocumentManager and have to install it on both the TEST and LIVE environments concurrently. All 30 siloed products use the same DocManager, and often a fix for one product in it blows out another product.
    - Pay structure totally out of whack with the sector. Competent people bolt for better-paying jobs quickly, leaving the goobers. who then "mentor" the new hires. Of course, the really incompetent folks get promoted to supervisors, because they have the most time in position. Like in any cesspool, the really big pieces continue to float to the top.
    - Draconian methods of distributing office supplies. Admin Nazis are paid to log under your employee number every single pen and manila folder you receive from the stock room before they dole it out to you. I.E: Staples are given out in less than inch portions.
    - Signs on every microwave oven in the company saying "No Microwave Popcorn" because many years ago someone burned a bag of popcorn in a microwave ONCE.

    Advice to Management

(Management at Meditech all started as new hires in the trenches, so they have no real-world experience. Having amassed enough years to rise to the top, they are fully assimilated by the "Meditech Method of Mediocrity" and have no interest in changing things to work better. They are a lost cause, and the idea of offering them advice recalls to me the line "Do not try to teach your pigs to sing, because it wastes your time and annoys the pig")

The company NEEDS its first layoff to get rid of all the non functioning dead wood. I know Meditech prides itself on never having had a layoff, but the company needs an enema. You can easily lay off half your employees and no one would ever see the difference. Take the money you save on the useless employees and give the employees who really do the work a sizeable merit increase (30% +)

I worked at Meditech full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The work life balance and benefits were fantastic. My manager and coworkers were very friendly and life was great. Great entry into the software industry.

    Cons

There was no real career path forward, waiting around for a dead man's (or woman's) shoes.
