A company with substantial potential in dire need of better professionalism and direction
Pros
Offers challenging technical projects for active-minded engineers and scientists. The work schedule is flexible and includes generous vacation and sick leave provisions. Job security is essentially ensured provided expectations are met.
Cons
The office environment presents an unsettling ambiance suggesting that its people aren't particularly content with their responsibilities. Company products are esoteric with limited commercial potential and project funding remains dependent on government grants. Management insists on having exceptional talent but won't compensate accordingly for it, which is often the case with a niche industry. Management further appears to favor the opportunity for criticism over praise and has limited interest in providing training and guidance; such a shortcoming proved to be critical following a catastrophic laboratory accident involving the death of an employee and injury to another. Career advancement is essentially confined to sycophants and PhDs, and a couple of higher-ups have taken advantage of their positions to have inappropriate relationships with their subordinates which continues to this day.
