Pros

The CSO actually is talented and his ingenuity would be the only reason this company ever goes anywhere.

Cons

– Management is inept and the company is constantly in a state of chaos due to the CEO being unable to formulate a decisive plan and stick to it. – The CEO plays psychological games with employees and creates an environment of fear and intimidation. – There is no product, nor a clear vision of a product. – The business side of the company has no compunction about lying to get investors or clients. – Poor compensation

Pros

- The underlying technology is decent.

Cons

- Incredibly toxic organization. Abusive behavior is tolerated and even encouraged. - A general lack of accountability. People here think they are infallible. Products are routinely shipped out with zero testing and it shows. When issues arise, people get defensive and deflect blame to others no matter what the causes are. - Absolutely no work life balance. You are expected to respond to Slack messages no matter what time of day or night. You are expected to work nights and weekends, even for non-urgent tasks. - Incompetent middle management. - No sense of career progression. - Company leadership is a mess. Frequent turnover at the VP level, presumably because of all these issues. - Mendel has been around for 8 whole years and has yet to have a defined product. Company focus pivots multiple times a year at a moments notice. Projects are constantly started and scratched on whims. As a result we aren’t able to get any traction.

Pros

- Innovative product solving challenging problem - Big addressable market - Impressive revenue for its stage - Friendly in-person environment and co-workers - Company-wise travel (Egypt this year) - 2 remote work days every week

Cons

- Still figuring out product market fit - Under-defined product. Takes months to understand what it is - Slow progress (in hiring, product development, replying messages on Slack) - People leave frequently (2 execs/2 VPs left in ~6 months of joining, recruiters left in a couple months, even executive assistant left in a few months) - Insecure/inexperienced founders who are often egotistical - Muted culture - Lack of management/feedback - Subjectively unethical. Workers in Egypt are invited to meetings after midnight - Lots of manual work to deliver - Low compensation package - Need to pay 20% for insurance - Could benefit from more transparency
