      Outreach team's senior management needs work

      Pros

      The work itself is very interesting and exciting. You get to travel and meet new people from all over the country, many of whom are very intelligent and in powerful political positions. The scholars are all amazing to work with and clearly value the Outreach team. Their research is top-level.

      Cons

      The senior managers on the Outreach team struggle to stay on top of scholars' research, don't follow a "challenge culture" like the rest of the organization, and act unprofessionally. Don't get on their bad side. They also do not pay their employees very well.

      Great Mission, Team Culture Varies

      Pros

      Evidence-based, mostly non-partisan research (libertarian leaning) Benefits include GMU courses- perfect for continuing education Great team spirit among employees

      Cons

      Huge issues with the top leadership on some of the teams (constant racist/sexist remarks, inappropriate inquiries into employee's personal lives, micromanaging, taking credit for staff's accomplishments, etc.) The issues were reported to HR on several occasions by different employees with no action taken Very disappointing as it seems like this can be a great place to work, provided you land on the right team

      Pros

      Mercatus is great with their really lax dress code (can wear anything from jeans and sneakers to business casual). They also have a great vacation policy (as many days as you need as long as you get your work done).

      Cons

      The biggest issue at Mercatus is the gap between what they say they do versus what they actually do. Basically, a lot of preaching without much practicing.
