I have been working at Mercy full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The culture at Mercy is very patient-centered. Providers truly care about the patients.

    Cons

Mercy does not offer competitive compensation for experienced nurses. They also donate the providers holiday bonus without asking the recipient. Mercy requests funds from its employees but does pay them fairly. Benefits are also on the expensive side, and the cheaper plan limits employees to only Mercy doctors.

    Advice to Management

In order to retain talent, wages for experienced nursing staff should surpass what is offered to new graduate nurses. Also, the providers should have the option to receive their holiday bonus.

I worked at Mercy full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

My paycheck always cleared so there's that...

    Cons

Too many to list. Mercy went downhill when they changed from St. John's.

    Advice to Management

Staff the nurses adequately. No one will work understaffed, under paid, and never appreciated.

    I worked at Mercy full-time

    Pros

Very reasonably priced healthcare if you use Mercy providers and facilities. People are nice. Great values in theory.

    Cons

Low caliber of leadership. There are people in leadership roles that are not leaders. It's great that they reward loyalty, but there is no true coaching, training, or accountability for these leaders. Processes changed daily or even by the minute, depending on who you talked to. There was obvious tension between various teams within marketing, but it was brushed under the rug like most things in the department.

    Advice to Management

There has to be a focus on the culture in the marketing department that isn't incremental change, but a full gut rehab with accountability.

    Negative Outlook

I have been working at Mercy part-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

As a PRN EMS employee most months there are plenty of open shifts to work.

    Cons

Poor equipment, poor truck conditions and old, poor management. When something breaks it likely will stay broken for a long time. I’ve heard management say we just need meat in the seat. EMS is a revolving door. The good medics don’t stay. Little support from management. A lot of long transfers. I could go on...

    Advice to Management

Make some changes like supporting your subordinates, go to bat for them. Spend a little money on equipment and trucks. Have replacement parts on standby so the medics can do their job.
