Pros

Great work/life balance and more PTO than I have ever had at any job. They do this to make up for the very low pay.

Cons

Certain people on campus are allowed to get away with anything and are not punished even when several employees and students file complaints against them. HR is a joke and they do nothing to support/help the employees. Their job is to protect the interests of the College at all costs. There is NO growth opportunities. Most employees don't last more that 1-2 years because of this (and the lack of pay). I was reminded several times that I was easily replaceable anytime I asked for a raise, promotion, or even a little recognition. HORRIBLE place to work.

Pay is abysmal

Pros

Work life balance Pretty Campus Above average amount of PTO

Cons

Pay is horrible. You can make double your salary or more almost anywhere else. There are also NO merit raises. There is a standard across the board raise once a year and it is generally 1-2%. Very little (if any) opportunities for advancement. The faculty are looked at/treated like royalty. Staff members are treated like peasants.

Pros

Depending on your department, the work environment at Meredith is good. A small school means more direct connections with faculty and students, and more autonomy as far as programming goes compared to larger institutions. This is a double-edged sword, however, because it means you might be taken advantage of, doing excellent work while making pennies.

Cons

The pay at Meredith is absolutely pitiful compared to neighboring institutions and there are few benefits/perks to make up for it besides free parking. Recently, the DOJ increased the salary threshold for Exempt (salaried employees, monthly, no overtime pay, only log time off on timecard) employees to $43,888 with another increase expected in January 2025. Instead of raising their employees pay (which they avoid doing at all costs even though cost of living has significantly changed in the Raleigh area), Meredith has decided to move any employees under that threshold to Non-Exempt status, completely changing how they are compensated, giving ONLY TWO WEEKS NOTICE. This is unacceptable.
