Pros

co-workers that have not drank the KoolAid

Cons

Where to begin.. very, very unprofessional leadership. Definitely, "family run" and not in a good way. Extreme micromanagement, lack of planning with poor execution and then crisis management mode kicks in while throwing others under the bus... I have never seen employees hired and fired so quickly and without merit. I know of one employee who received a very good year end eval, (I don't think anyone gets an excellent eval unless the last name is Cotton) hefty bonus and then fired a month later, because one of the C-level family members decided they no longer liked that employee because of an offhand remark made by one of the favorite employees.. the remark being pure gossip and completely false..and when the termed employee spoke the truth, denied the accusation, even had witnesses to affirm the facts, it didn't matter.. bye bye.. no more paycheck, have a nice life.. sadly, this occurs all too frequently. Young, inexperienced, naive newbies are promoted to positions for which they are not qualified, which of course causes resentment among those with experience and leadership skills. The inexperienced leaders crash and burn unless they succumb to every nonsensical whim of the "family" I have never experienced such a vile culture in my entire career, which spans decades. This company reminds me of Game of Thrones with several family members who could effectively portray "Joffrey" in real life. The bad reviews on Glassdoor and other sites are true. I can vouch for them as I have seen it not only in Detroit, but in the other offices as well. If you need a paycheck and can stay under the radar, you may survive. If you stick your neck out, and are not a college aged long haired, short skirted, beauty queen, I would bet the bank that the revolving door will smack you in the behind. But, to all those fresh college grads or new to the corporate world folks, please know that MHP is not the norm. There are far, far better places to work and once you leave, you will quickly realize that. If you do start there, get termed and feel demoralized and degraded, stop, hold your head high and take it as a lesson learned and embark on your new journey with a company with ethics. It will take you a nano-second to see the difference! And, lastly, Charles Manson had a 'family', the Sopranos were a 'family'...... and yes, the Cottons are very much a 'family'.

Pros

There are really good people that work for this company.

Cons

Those really good people are extremely under valued. Management lacks communication with everyone. After working here for 2 1/2 years I finally became fed up with the politics and madness of this company and found another job. After turning in my two week notice I was later told that the company doesn't need me for my finals two weeks and was told to leave. People in management positions are to young and doesn't have enough work or life experience to be effective managers. We were placed on mandatory OT on a one day noticed and forced to work weekends and holidays on short notice. Doing well with your work here only gets you more work and no advancement. Advancement opportunities only comes for employees that fit the look or buddies of the people making the decisions. I've never in my life worked within such an unorganized company. They will find ways to not give you you bonuses at the end of the year to save the company money. The company stop giving us paper cups for coffee and water to save money. I could go on and on with this list for a while but at the end of the day save yourself the headache and don't work here. The morale of this place is terrible, everyone is depressed and lose a sense of their self worth while working here. That's a feeling you should never have when working within and organization where you're going to spend most of your time Believe the other comments on here, people are telling truth about what it's like working here. The new WFM system makes you feel like a prisoner at work if you're in a phone queue. So much to the fact that as an adult you feel as if you need to ask to use the restroom. 0 work life balance. I've seen upper management force directors to quit and if not terminate them for whatever reason they come up with for no reason besides the fact that they stood up for themselves and the people that work under them. If you decide to work here after reading all of the comments on here all I have to say is "May the odds be ever in your favor".

Pros

Well, it was nice already being downtown for events you want to attend like sports or concerts. Also, the people you work with will end up like family... nothing like sharing a common disdain for something to bring people together. Company picnic is pretty awesome.

Cons

Much of what you are told will be a lie. Advancement opportunities, great work place, engagement with the company, raises, bonuses, and much much more will never come to fruition unless you're willing to "play the game" (game= catty politics or being an attractive young woman...or both). Much leadership is beyond inept and couldn't lead their way out of their own house. If something makes sense, then leadership/the company will pretty much do the opposite. Daily, you will find yourself wondering what the hell is going on. After all the time I was there, I found myself saying "no way they will do that, it makes no sense" and then I checked myself. "Of course they will, because it makes no sense!" The good leaders and team members (or family members, as they will call you) will leave sooner than later whether forced or just can't take it anymore. "Family members", HA! If I treated my friends and family like the company treats some employees, I'd be a lonely person. Favoritism is the only way any (besides good looks) that anyone advances in the company. Routinely, good veteran people are ignored and passed up for promotions or transfers for people who are newer, prettier, and in better with the person that the position is under. Hard work and intelligence does not spell success here. Those attributes simply set the stage for stagnation, additional work and responsibility, and soul-sucking disdain for life. Perhaps there are some good places in this company to work for, but it sure seems like there is more bad than good. They keep taking away benefits of working here and adding more bad attributes. Parking downtown costs money and traffic is abundant. Medical benefits get worse yearly; I would go as far as to say they are terrible beginning this year. Company values make sense and are great. Unfortunately, they're not followed by the company but are expected to be followed by everyone. They serve only as a generic way to weed out people that "leaders" don't like. If you like mandatory overtime, being micromanaged, limited growth opportunities, no leadership, "anonymous" surveys that are less than anonymous and are absolutely held against you, being told your family is less important than your "work family", parking in Canada, and nonsensical decisions (amongst much more "fun")...then Meridian is the place for you!
