Pros

Really neat school to work at and excellent benefits including plenty of PTO, good health insurance, free lunch on campus, and tuition benefits.

Cons

The internal politics are awful. The higher you are in the "food chain", the more awful it is. If you get a job there, the benefits are terrific. HR, legal and the President's office WILL back up and protect leadership that lie or mess up if they are high performers. Lots of folks I know have been stepped on. It's too bad really because the school itself, the faculty, and the students are great. And they dragging their feet on hybrid despite the trends which is causing them to lose staff. But they will negotiate hybrid or even allow fully remote to hire or retain staff without extending it to other staff. So short sighted. The administrative staff should unionize to ensure protections from seriously shady management.

Pros

I worked at Merrimack for a little under a year, but what I knew was the people who work there deeply care about their work and the general good of higher education across the board.

Cons

Unfortunately, I had the most toxic work experience and time at Merrimack. While I felt like there was a strong sense of community, I felt incredibly misunderstood, did not receive support (all within months of starting), was told that my time traveling for work did not count towards my work, and was refused/denied compensation for travel expenses that were supposed to be covered under business travel expenses by the college. I feel so deeply regretful of my time there. I can tell everyone was highly overworked, and did not have a very good work/life balance. Everything revolved around each other and Merrimack itself. There was little room for innovative ideation. It was the most traumatic work experience I have ever had, and I still am recovering in many ways from that time today. I would highly encourage folks to ask the hard questions of the day to day before getting involved in this particular office.

Pros

Location: Small, pretty campus in a nice town, close to major highways.

Cons

No job security, extreme hierarchy, frequent termination of the most loyal, well-known, valuable and long-term employees due to "changes in structure", top-down intimidation and poor management styles frequently force those who have not been terminated to leave on their own, too many scandals - both publicized and those somehow kept "under wraps".
