Pros

Not many. Terribly run organization and has been for decades. All smoke and mirrors. Other than a free membership, not many long lasting pro’s. Even the membership is eh...

Cons

Way too much to list actually. Not even sure how this health club stays afloat. They’ve certainly left a horrible taste in many, many community partners over the years. It’s a shame Bc there actually is potential but no.. they in the most arrogant way possible screw it all up. They literally hire and reward the least talented, most clueless people they can find to avoid threatening the incompetent leadership. Anyone with talent or constructive progressive thinking is terminated in some way. It’s been this way for years and years. I would say roughly 25. If you end up working here, i love to say i told ya so

Pros

It provides an excellent opportunity to work on customer service skills--and the members can be very rewarding to interact with. Co-workers are generally friendly and supportive, and there are some members of management who take an interest in your development.

Cons

Flagrant disregard for providing breaks. As a lifeguard, I sat on the pool deck for 6-8 hours without ever receiving a lunch break (or even a regular break) because Meritt "had nobody that was qualified to watch the pool". Even going to the bathroom required me to ask a manager to sit (which was illegal, since they weren't trained as lifeguards). There was one point at which I was scolded because I had to ask a manager to sit so I could USE THE RESTROOM. Merritt never closes in unsafe weather conditions, even if other local businesses in the area do. There was one point at which I had to drive up to the club at 5 am, on sleet-covered, unsalted roads (after a very large snowstorm) because the club insisted on being open. Club management didn't seem to care about staff members risking their safety to get there. Employees are viewed as disposable, or easily replaceable, and it shows. Rather than taking employee comments or complaints seriously, they are brushed off by upper management--and I believe this dismissive attitude comes from the thought process of, "If the employee really hates it so much, they'll leave, and we'll hire somebody else: no big deal."

Pros

Facilities are well maintained and clean environment for members and guest.

Cons

If you are entry level sales don't expect any training. The systems (multiple broken) you are required to use are horrible. It makes it nearly impossible for someone to reach their goal unless you work at the canton location. All of the other locations struggle. You will never get a raise. Memberships sales team is responsible for EVERYTHING when it comes to customer relations. Welcome desk and housekeeping employee turn around is poor. Its a revolving door with young professionals in college or high school who are lazy and constantly call out of work. Leaving other department heads covering and pulling them away from their job. Merritt Loves to offer programs and events for members but they are poorly executed. Marketing team could use some training or fresh faces to help improve the companies website and promotions.
