Problems with diversity

Pros

MESSA offers excellent pay and benefits, and very flexible schedules. Overall, I enjoy working here, as long as I keep my head down and avoid the office politics.

Cons

MESSA has a real diversity issue. The last three or four people fired have been black, and it seems like everyone there is from rural areas and they are all related to each other. Just about everyone in upper management is white, even though MESSA's members are more diverse.

Pros

Great benefits (pension, health, vision, dental)

Cons

Extreme Racism Sexism A lot of office cliques Incestuous environment (family starts working at MESSA/MEA at age 18 after getting hired by a family member and that person eventually achieves high titles/pay with zero experience in the outside world or college degree) A lot of people there are kin to each other. School teachers in Michigan are struggling to afford their MESSA insurance, while staffers who don't have degrees at MESSA are earning six-figure salaries
