Pros

1. A leader in its market segment (automotive battery management) with strong brand recognition amongst its customers 2. Strong market share in the US 3. A privately-held company with global offices (EU and Asia) that could give you exposure to multiple facets on how a company operates 4. Founder who cares for its employees, wants to invest in the business, and strives to maintain a family-oriented culture

Cons

1. Company is striving to become a market leader, yet its execution of business strategy and software delivery track record lately have been poor 2. Engineering has become a weakness for the company due to multiple software quality issues post product release and its finger-pointing attitude 3. Benefit plans & compensation level are not comparable to other public companies 4. Internal business process is not mature while new ones that are being introduced are not well executed 5. Limited career advancement opportunity 6. All middle and senior management positions are occupied by white males; minorities are confined to engineering department 7. Uncertain company future once the founder steps down

Pros

They have a very good benefit package, the only company I know of that will help pay for gym memberships. The work there was challenging and I enjoyed the technical details.

Cons

They have a basic attitude there that if the numbers do not get met (yearly sales) someone will be fired. It does not matter if that person is the problem or not, but someone has to go. In 5 years 6 people were fired or quit in one department because the numbers were not met. And these people were good at their jobs, all I know of went on to excellent careers at other companies. As it becomes clear that the numbers are not met, more and more pressure is put on people. And I don't mean numbers that indicate profit or loss, I mean goal numbers that are very high. In the 5 years mentioned none had a loss. There is rarely any positive feed-back. Although they claim to support employee education, they will not agree to anything that would take more than 1 or 2 day.

Pros

Some of the people are very hard working and friendly.

Cons

They talk alot about the benefits and ability to move up but it doesn't materialize. Bonuses have been cut two years in a row with this year looking like it will make 3. If you are close friends with the boss, you will be promoted, if not then they will work you into the ground. Either you try to keep up and eventually quit, or your work starts slipping and they fire you.
