Pros

Excellent local management, great co-workers, lots of autonomy

Cons

100% commission (draw vs commission) PAID ON COLLECTION, credit card fees are passed on to Marketing Consultants even though that does not appear anywhere in the employment agreement (even credit card fees for talent fees which the Consultant doesn't earn commissions on), non-compete agreement, expensive health insurance, minimal holidays, no 401K matching.

Pros

Because of the difficult work conditions, you do become very close with some of your coworkers. Once I was forced to switch job positions without prior notice, therefore missing a paycheck and I was unable to pay my bills. My coworkers jumped in and offered to loan me the funds to make sure I was taken care of. They become a second family which unfortunately causes many to stay longer than they should.

Cons

This company exploits their workers. You are underpaid, understaffed, and you're simply expected to make ends meet. I witnessed inequality of pay based on gender. Superiors would often belittle your ideas but then use them for themselves and take credit. Corporate policy says you are unable to take a sick day until you've been in the position for three months, forcing me to work while having bronchitis because I couldn't afford to lose the pay. Listeners called in and asked why I was working I sounded so sick. The insurance plans they provide are bad and had high deductibles. I was unable to afford to use them. Employees are generally unhappy, the work environment is unstable, there is no job security, and even full-time employees usually worked a second job due to the low pay. Raises are few and far between.

Pros

Radio is a great industry with lots of perks and a fun atmosphere. Selling small to medium size business advertising is a great career where you get to meet many people and network with the community.

Cons

This company has a serious issue with chauvinism. There is not one female manager. Basically the owner hires all his "old" buddies from yesteryear who don't have a clue how to manage and create an environment where employers are motivated to perform. All marketing reps are paid the same commission but the only ones who make decent money are those at the top two stations because of the difference in rates between stations.
