Probably Not a 2017 Best Place to Work

Pros

TradeMark has a great company culture. Your co workers will be some of the best people and your best friends for life. They do cool stuff like segway tours and dog walking at the pound or volunteering at Meals on Wheels.

Cons

Too much volatility at this agency. TradeMark just laid off over 25% of its staff, after acquiring another small company and losing some important accounts. The work also doesnt really challenge skilled workers. Its pretty simple stuff. Compensation is low compared to other opportunities.

Thank you for the kind words about company culture as well as your thoughts about the work and the company direction. The layoff this year was the first in our 17-year history - and something we don't expect to repeat. This challenge came on the heels of the merger, but was not the result of the merger. We value your feedback about the work, and are disappointed to hear that you did not feel challenged. This is not something routinely heard from other staff and I would like to have the opportunity to make improvements. I would appreciate hearing more detail and hope that you reach out directly to tell me more about your particular experience. The merger added marketing and brand strategy to our portfolio. This means that we will be able to provide a greater range of services to our clients. Getting in to projects at the ground floor - with marketing strategy - will enhance our ability to make a difference for our clients. Now, we're positioned to take clients from big picture strategy & design - all the way through to an effective, well-executed, and supported site or online app. It's true that we have some work to do to update our outreach and our own brand position to reflect these additional services - but we are on our way in that effort and are looking forward to the new opportunities it provides. All my best, Andrea

Pros

There are Good people that work there. Just not the ones in charge. The support staff is full of great talent and supportive team members. The office is in an up and coming area of town.

Cons

They (the executive team) do not look out for you, do not play fair and always do what's best for them. Everything they give you in writing will have an out clause that benefits only those at the top. There are a lot of small agencies in Austin, get your start at another one.

Thank you for your feedback. We are committed to making sure everyone is treated fairly and welcome your thoughts. We take great care to provide exceptional company benefits and a collaborative and supportive team environment - and that includes writing hiring and severance agreements that are fair, equitable, and transparent. We'd welcome your direct feedback and would like to hear more about your specific concerns. We hope that you reach out to us directly, so we can continue the conversation. With Kind Regards, Andrea

Pros

TradeMark Media is all about its employees' happiness and success. Maintaining a healthy work/life balance comes before all else, and a supportive vibe is an absolute constant. With respect to software development, you can find higher salaries elsewhere but you cannot find an equal when it comes to the full complement of benefits (health, salary, peace of mind, rare instances of working over 40 hours, etc.). TradeMark's process sets up itself and its employees for success by planning projects logically and reasonably with respect to development hours and timelines.

Cons

For the most part, TradeMark media simply "makes websites." This can either be interpreted as a well-focused company, or a company that limits its ability to accomplish a wide variety of goals. Development tends to begin in either Drupal or ExpressionEngine but does often include a great deal of customization to project specifications. Depending upon one's personal goals, if those include a wide variety of software development projects, TradeMark Media could be pigeon-holed as a CMS shop that designs for practical needs, rather than extravagant, flashy solutions.
