Pros

Coworkers. My team members are truly smart, talented people who somehow manage to do well despite the chaos. The worker bees care about the mission of the company, which is to provide inclusive products to our consumers.

Cons

Oh Milani, Milani, Milani. I joined the company in 2019 and it was a different place than it is now. The company was acquired prior to my arrival and of course there were a lot of changes. Initially these changes were good - the investors seemed to be providing financial support to the team, until that came to an abrupt stop. Milani quickly became a place where expectations became quite high and investment into the company seemed to decrease in order to preserve profits. Fast forward to end of 2020 and things really hit the fan. Leadership became questionable in their intentions. It was increasingly apparent that our wellbeing took a backseat to profit. We had massive layoffs in which it was not uncommon for 2+ roles to be piled onto your already full plate. Even after bringing this up to senior leadership, there seemed to be little interest in helping their team (or it took months to receive any help.) Another very worrisome move was the company's pick for CEO, who made some very bold, racist comments during a company meeting. In addition, she seemed to have issues with the range of tones in our product lineup and it wasn't uncommon for her to make suggestive comments about the deeper complexion shades. In addition to this, leadership tends to undermine the work of their employees quite a bit and seems to not have trust in the team's expertise. Pointless meetings are commonplace. Why do we need 10+ meetings so the CEO can "get to know us"? Seems redundant, especially since we're stretched quite thin already. This company is a sinking ship at this point. Leadership has no clear plans, lacks strategy, and looks for short term gains in profit while disregarding long term success/growth. They do not care for their employees. They do not care for "having an inclusive space" even though that is what they tout all day long. They do not care about what the brand stands for and how we cater to consumers of various backgrounds. They are for lack of better word, a hot mess.

Don't Waste Your Time

Pros

The office is located in Downtown Culver City, which is within walking distance to many restaurants.

Cons

Honestly, don't waste your time. I agree with all of the 1.0-star reviews and cons about the company that was previously mentioned. Unfortunately, you put in the hard work and don't receive proper acknowledgment or guidance. It appears that upper management has ties with HR, so be aware that HR won't listen or even pretend to be on your side if any issues arise. Upper management doesn't have the experience, training, leadership qualities, or education to fill their roles appropriately. It was a daily struggle since they spent most of their time on Pinterest or in pointless meetings while giving the rest of the team the brunt of work. I worked late hours without enough time to run to the restroom or eat lunch due to insane and unmanageable workloads and deadlines. I became burned out after a few months due to the number of overtime hours I was putting in. It's also a little concerning that upper management drinks during work hours. This behavior caused an increased lack of effort and compromised deadlines. For your sanity, stay away.

Stay away from this mess of a company

Pros

You will work with some genuinely nice people who are passionate about what they do. There is some great talent within the team (if only they were treated better).

Cons

Diversity is all just a marketing tactic. They don’t care about their employees of color and it shows. They recently gave a LARGE number of promotions across teams because everyone is leaving the company, they are scared of losing more people. Tons of layoffs, furloughs and empty promises have been made by the company. So many tone deaf meetings and not to mention, it’s straight white men at the top making decisions that impact the brand that is marketed toward women of color. The new CEO is absolutely awful and she is a huge part of why so many people are leaving. This has been addressed several times, and no action has been taken. The brand is going downhill from here, also benefits are trash and there is absolutely no company culture, it’s a nightmare. Stay away from this place, trust me!
