Pros

A startup with a strong business side (business model, financials, partnerships, etc.)

Cons

This company could become big and if you get in now you could say that you were there early on. But from the moment I joined I had goals put on me that I personally thought were extremely hard to achieve and I have been a developer for over 10 years. Also, all sense of a life outside of them disappeared from the first day. In the spirit of fairness I want to say that I was there very briefly and I didn't get a sense of how true this sentiment was for others in the company. But I also want to say that my previous managers think highly of me. In fact one of them is starting a company and has invited me to be one of the first engineers. The above may sound harsh, but I believe in empowering people with knowledge. In fact this review may *help* Miles filter out candidates that aren't right for them. If your dream is to be in on the ground floor of a company that could be a household name, and you are willing to sacrifice everything outside of your professional life to make that happen, Miles might be for you. But be realistic of how much work/life balance is import to you. I was surprised with my own assessmwent.

Pros

Experience. And good food options

Cons

I didn’t even know better until I actually was part of a better team. I witnessed so much sexism and favoritism at Miles it was pretty much commonplace to have people cutting each other off in meetings in almost every meeting. CEO has the final say in everything so it’s no use attempting to disagree if you have a different opinion because your opinion, if it’s different from his, will be overruled. I had people messaging me on Slack until at least 12/1 am sometimes, and this was normal. Most individuals are not being paid a living salary and management is basically nonexistent. My personal career goals were also nonexistent in this workplace. Check-ins with managers are promised but never actually fulfilled. Culture is fine, people are great. Work here if you want to be taken advantage of.

Pros

It was interesting to start working for such an early stage company.

Cons

1. No idea of work life balance. People are overworked and under paid, the majority of people hired are on visa sponsorship, so this must be the main reason the people that are still their won’t or rather “can’t” leave. 2. No benefits, yes. None at all, PTO, sick time, health insurance, etc. 3. The concept is great but the execution is terrible, in all respect and all levels. Founders must have a say in everything and will impose their criteria over any experience or suggestions you will have. 4. Dishonesty and transparency all around. People would leave and a completely different story would be told to other parts of the organization. Company meetings about KPI’s would not match what the data actually was showing. 5. People don’t stick around that long, for such a small company the amount of attrition is mind boggling, and those who stay as mentioned before, have no other option if they would like to remain in the U.S. 6. Pay was well below market average and you will have to work on the weekends as well. I am all for working hard, but when “having full weekends off” was one of the company goals, you know that there was definitely a lack of efficiency in time and resource management.
