Pros

The job security, pay, and travel. The pay is dependent on whether you get a decent supervisor or ship's Master. You get a bad ship and you will waste 4 months of your time (more since personel are overdue 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80 days reliefs).

Cons

Biased job assignments and promotions. Norfolk Office Staff treats Civmars on ships like dirt. Poor living conditions and time at home. Management always trying new and innovative ways to chisle money and time away from the employees. If you are not sucking up 24/7 to the powers that be you are going to get the worst assignments and zero training for advancement.

Pros

The money is really good because of the overtime you get everyday and weekends. You are working 7days a week. You get to visit beautiful places all over the world. You can train on the ship to advance. Some departments are easier to get in than others. The food is free and not too bad depending on the person. Work isn't too difficult once you adjust to the hours and have a routine. Government job. NEX access.

Cons

You're away from home. If you're single without kids it's an ideal job, but if you have a family be prepared for a struggle. Being out at sea too long can drive you nuts. Limited internet access. The people you work with and/or for may be difficult, but it's all about remembering it's just a job.
