Pros

Work/life balance is good. Co-workers (non-management) are great. Benefits are average.

Cons

Little to no training offered to new hires. Management provides no support and/or is completely absent. Management has no concept of daily responsibilities. Communication is poor. You receive no recognition for good work. Compensation is below average. All of the perks have been taken away. Morale is low. No one is appreciated. No opportunity for advancement.

Pros

I have some fun people on my team that I enjoy spending time with! In our department of 6-7 people we've created our own fun sub-culture that doesn't exist outside of it.

Cons

-healthcare is the worst I've had my entire adult career -for a communications company, there is little to no communication -promised promotions and never get them -asking for raises is a list cause -overall culture is terrible -minimal employee recognition -if you're not a sales rep, you pretty much don't matter.

Trying hard to be relevant

Pros

Smart people. Creative workplace. Diverse work force. A lot of effort has gone into encouraging use of new technologies and social media. Experience in experimental story forms.

Cons

Top-heavy with managers who contribute little and are a drain on expenses as a result of multiple buy-outs/layoffs. Long hours, little recognition for long-time employees. A hiring manager once remarked loudly: "A good hire stays 2 years; a bad hire stays 10 years." So much for loyalty. Newsroom culture favors outside candidates over internal candidates, leading to terrible morale. Loyal employees denigrated and pigeon-holed.
