Built on Potential, Undone by Leadership

Pros

You’ll quickly build resilience in a high-stress retail environment.

Cons

Everything. With extensive retail experience, this is easily the worst company I’ve worked for. If you want to feel respected or supported, this isn’t it. There’s a huge disconnect between head office and store operations. Buyers continue to bring in the same products that don’t sell, leaving inventory to sit for months while trends move on. The company consistently feels one step behind the market. At the same time, products are miscategorized, reporting is unreliable, and stores are left fixing mistakes they didn’t create. Teams are held accountable for numbers that aren’t even set up properly. Promotions don’t appear to be based on performance or qualifications. On the floor, staff take the daily hit for corporate pricing decisions. Employees are routinely yelled at by card collectors over markups, called “scalpers,” and blamed for strategies set by head office. There’s little visible support when this happens. Being the punching bag for decisions you didn’t make is mentally exhausting. Since ownership stepped back and outside leadership took control, the company feels like it’s been in steady decline. Direction changes constantly, morale is low, and turnover reflects it. The brand looks exciting from the outside. Inside, it’s disorganized, political, and draining. If you’re desperate for a paycheck, it may serve that purpose. Just don’t expect growth, stability, or appreciation.

Pros

Great coworkers and a half decent discount when you can actually get it.

Cons

You will be Micromanaged to death at this job. The DM is beyind clueless and only cares about numbers (account sign up, units per transaction, monthly sales goals etc.). You also will be treated as a number. If you are a woman forget being promoted unless they have no other choice. You will be watched 24/7 through security cameras. They'll say it's for checking stock levels and theft. It is not! Phone calls will come with them complaining that you don't have bubble guns constantly running. Forget that it's a trip and slip hazard. They know nothing about safety protocols and the right to refuse. No matter how hard you push sales and demo products it's never enough. There is no SOP's. None! Figuring out safety standards, theft prevention, operating procedures, IT, merchandising is all up to you. Omg and the purchasing team. You'll get sent 3-4 skids a week of merch that doesn't sell and you'll already have hundreds of this item. And I quite literally mean hundreds! Costing this company thousands, it's chinese product that doesn’t move. You will be tripping over stock in the back room because there's no place to put it. And there's no cash refunds. But if a customer yells at you about this and you don't give them a cash refund it's your fault and they expect you to take blame. Make up your mind which you want us to do. The only good part is selling geeky merch and the fact that you'll probably have cool coworkers that feel the same way you do about the place. In my 20+ years of helping run companies, I've never seen a place run like this. I had multiple people quit due to the effects this job has had on their mental health. Stay away at all costs!!!
