SALES - run for the hills

Pros

Free food 3 days a week, but would have rather starved than spent more time in the office.

Cons

- Toxic environment, hired a joke of a director. Never sold a day of enterprise software in his life. - Horrible, horrible training. - Marketing was very disconnected. -Solution doesn't solve a valuable problems for most companies. A KB will do - Basically a boiler room. - Things may have changed, but regardless, DO NOT sell this product. Seriously. The only two reps hitting quota were purely inbound. Bottom Line: Founder has a cool story - gets a lot of love because of it. The company wasn't started to solve a problem that cost money. It started as open source, which is where is should have stayed. Why? Because the problem it solves doesn't drive value to the department that buys it. What does this mean? No sale. "cough" duh..

It's unfortunate you did not have more success during your time at MindTouch. You probably know me enough to know that I take that seriously. However, I get the sense that you did not work in a sales or customer-facing capacity because your feedback is not aligned with the realities experienced by our customers, buyers, or our metrics. MindTouch has hundreds of customers and we renew them at 95% annually while also maintaining negative churn. This means that in spite of losing 5% annually, the remaining customers value our product *so much* they buy more from us and this increased spend more than makes up for those small losses we incur from non-renewal. This is not new, we have maintained these stats for many years (4+). These two metrics (renewal and negative churn) combined with our solid revenue growth irrefutably demonstrates the value of our software and of our really exceptional team in Customer Success. That team is crazy good because they really care about the customer. Moreover, our sales management and sales team repeatedly demonstrate business acumen and a genuine interest in the success of our clients as is evidenced by many of our customer buying from us repeatedly over their careers. Recently, I became aware of one customer champion (buyer) who bought MindTouch at four companies in the last five years! That's remarkable! Not only am I personally proud of the Success and Sales teams at MindTouch their performance and love for serving our clients are represented quantitatively and empirically in every industry metric. That's nice that you think I have "good story"; maybe that means you'll be willing to reach out to me so that we can learn from your experience. I'm most concerned with your description that the environment was "toxic". That's not normally what we hear because we have focused on creating a positive, safe, and fun work culture. I'm interested in your feedback on how we can improve this. Email or call me. Best wishes and please let me (any of us) know if we can be helpful in your career. There's no such thing as an ex-MindToucher; only former, which means we're always available to help.

Not a Place to Grow

Pros

The People ------------- The people are by far the best part of working at MindTouch (with a few exceptions). From the sales to customer success to engineering, you can find great people everywhere, that really care about the company and seeing it succeed. Work-Life Balance --------------------- Little work outside of normal business hours.

Cons

Growth -------- MindTouch is not a place that promotes growth, both from a career and product view. If you want to contribute and build something awesome by being part of a great team, this is not the company for you. All decisions float down from the top. Salary ------- They claim to be a start-up and use that (as well as the 'Sunshine tax') as an excuse to give extremely poor salaries. Leaving MindTouch, I immediately received a substantial raise and was told it was standard. Team Building ---------------- Mandatory team building ... very often. Exhausting.

Pros

Free catered lunch every M/W/F (that's literally it as everything else is standard with any full-time position)

Cons

Incredibly cutthroat business, very slow paced unless you have a high position, the environment is incredibly unwelcoming to new people, HR is the most aggressive and unprofessional I've ever seen, people will seem nice but it's all fake. The company doesn't care who you are unless you've been there for a long time. If your work becomes even the slightest bit unnecessary they will cut you out at the soonest opportunity.

Developmental feedback is always difficult to take. Building a team that is dedicated and single-mindedly focused on making a better experience for our customers is a struggle that we take on every day. We don’t always succeed and sometimes a MindToucher gets left behind or feels left out. That seems to have happened to you. This is unfortunate. The HR team and everyone at MindTouch who truly cares about our mission will certainly take these words to heart as we continue to grow and improve. I wish you all the best on your onward journey. Please feel free to reach out if you have any further feedback. - Aaron Rice
