Disgrace!

Pros

As a former employee, it's a shame that MTI was able to obtain a loan to purchase a company the same size that they were. It's also important to note that Amcol, the company that they acquired, had a culture that appreciated its people, and understood that it's the people that make a company great, not statistics and processes. Give the current value of the MTI stock, the management at MTI might be realizing this, but I doubt it. They took a culture that was family oriented, goal oriented, had high sites on the future, and absolutely dismantled it.

Cons

Everything. Most of the talent at Amcol was either let go, or they left on their own. With the people go the relationships, the knowledge of the businesses, and the reputation of a company. The arrogance of the upper management, particularly the CEO, is nauseating. It's a company that wasn't fully aware of what it was purchasing, it just rushed to pull the trigger, they over paid for it, and not they have more debt with a dying company.

Pros

Mid level management and plant employees have always had a high work ethic and devotion to their jobs and the communities they and work in.

Cons

Previous comments on the (now former) CEO and top management team are spot on. CEO and leadership council pay increased dramatically over the past 10 years while most of the company had minimal pay raises and saw benefit cuts. The introduction of lean manufacturing started out positively but regressed into a numbers game to "show" analysts progress. # of events held is the metric measured not effectiveness of those. Ethics at company have been compromised in dealing with vendors, customers and employees. Management goal is to maximize earnings short term.

Pros

Very good pay and benefits, very solid safety culture and solid commitment to excellence, always looking for ways to improve the business, technology is average but functional.

Cons

Leadership on the local, regional and corporate level is draconian and profit is king. Work life balance is non existent, the reporting requirements are very heavy and cumbersome. Human resources is a functional arm of management and only interested in keeping corporate out of legal trouble. HR has never been helpful to the rank and file. Employees fired more often than any other company I had worked for. Local managers are terminated on a whim and there is no consistency. Constant reorganizations. They say they have standards of behavior but they only apply to the local workforce. Good people leave and have left because of all the above.
