Great learning experience (what not to look for)!
Pros
- Every holiday is observed, so lots of days off. Company parties are fun and there is food provided often. -You can slide by making yourself seem busy, but not doing much in reality. - Good for when you don't have another (better) opportunity or are ok with minimal opportunity for growth, but still want to make some money. - All mid-level people are actually very nice and fun So much office drama that it's very entertaining, so you'll never be bored.
Cons
- Location is terrible and the company doesn't have a 'work from home policy". The company is located in not the safest part of Brooklyn. There were multiple instances of assaults in the area and the company still has no work from home flexibility, even for roles that it's an industry standard for post-COVID. Actually some people get to work from home, while others don't (double standard). - The Chief People Officer or Chief of Staff (can't keep up with the titles because they change with the mood of the day) is someone you either want to become bffs with or stay as far away from as possible. They are the ultimate decision maker of everything in this company, while being a terrible manager and leader. A leader doesn't impose fear among her staff, which is her leadership style, since she knows that she has too much power to basically do anything. She is a bully and expect to be gaslit on the daily. The work that has her name on it is actually work completed by other employees that she claims as her own. There is a constant playing of favorites and double standards among the employees that she likes and the ones she doesn't. Some of the employees are her friends and family, so there is no equality here. Title, tenure, and job responsibilities don't matter much here, because of this person. Very poor communicator and you can assume that whatever you're told probably a lie made up on the spot to make it seem like it's being addressed and will most likely be talked about behind closed doors after. Whatever the company policies are like expensing company related purchases, food orders, days off, work from home, etc, - those rules do not apply to this person. She expects everyone to be there on time, while her days usually start around 1 pm. Highly advise against suggesting any improvement for change on a company level to her directly, because it will be taken the wrong way and your input will not be appreciated, so stop trying in the beginning. - No room for growth and lots of false promises. If an improvement is suggested that is a team effort, you will most likely be doing all the work. No accountability among senior management.
