Pros

If you can make it into the “In-Crowd” either by becoming drinking buddies with upper management, or by graduating from Cal Poly SLO, then you’re pretty much set for your career at Mission. Become buddies with one/both of the President/CEO’s sons, and you’ll be made a Director in no time.

Cons

Human Resources is hands-down 100% untrustworthy. They are deceitful liars. When you fail to make it into Mission’s “In-Crowd,” and you inevitably end-up meeting with Human Resources, you will be told things like “What you tell me/us is confidential.” Do NOT believe this. You will immediately be retaliated-against by whomever you discussed with HR. You can expect daily/weekly drama and petty office politics. No accountability for those in the “In-Crowd,” and all blame is directed at those who will put in the long hours and dedication to keep this company afloat.

Major pay gaps between corporate/factory jobs. Toxic workplace

Pros

If management likes you and you're in the corporate sector of the company, it is very easy to move up in positions and get paid a high salary. I've never been at a company where they hand out new positions and higher salaries in such a short-time scale, for no justifiable reason. Sales employees barely out of college make an extremely high salary. In addition, they always seem to have money to put on events, go out to lunch, get catering, etc. The perks are nice on the surface, especially if you are a CalPoly grad. They are very successful and are expanding to new markets.

Cons

It's a toxic workplace with nepotist policies. The CEO and his sons walk around like they're gods gift to avocados. You have to tip-toe around them to not hurt their inflated egos. Though growth is fast, they will also cut you very fast if you don't fit into the bravado, good ole-boys style, or if they simply don't like you. They disregard normal workplace policies to suit their needs, and while the sales people are making unjustifiable high salaries, they can't even fork over a dollar over minimum wage to their seasonal produce workers. They make them work long hours, supervisors berate employees, and they don't get any benefits. It's honestly disgusting.

Good - Not So Good

Pros

If you're good at what you do, your supervisor will leave you alone. This company is pretty basic so their IT environment is pretty easy. There are always goodies in one of the two kitchens. Sometimes there are employee appreciation luncheons.

Cons

MUST be in the office every day, M-F 8am to 5pm, and DON'T be late. Sr. salaried IT employees are treated like hourly employees. If you can accomplish difficult things and excel and clearly bring value to the work place, your work will not be recognized or complimented by "the boss." "You are a tool and everyone is stupid" is the mentality. The pay is lower than industry standards yet you will wear multiple hats. Also, if you ask for an inexpensive license for some software that you could use to help yourself and the business accomplish more, it will most likely be denied. Practically zero opportunity for career advancement. 401k match is low.
