Pros

Met nice people (apart from the rather unpleasant owner)

Cons

Owner fills employees heads with the idea that you will make half of what you produce. This is false. MoTek is on a group commission. Everybody takes a small portion of what the company produces. (Except for Baker. The owner takes over 65%+ of all the company commission to himself.) Completely illegal pay structure (Baker enforces mandatory, unpaid overtime during the week. Enforces work on Saturdays). Completely illegal commission structure (equally indentured servitude). MoTek is a draw against commission firm. Anything you make, you have to pay back with the commissions that you earned. What is the definition of narcissism? Excessive interest in or admiration of oneself. Baker brags about how much money he makes and has made in the past. Everything is everybody else's fault. Everybody else is the problem. He can never do wrong. Baker rarely produces yet is always complaining about production. MoTek as a whole is a completely unprofessional work environment. He claims that his employees are dispensable. (Notice how long employees are usually employed on LinkedIn). Workplace intimidation by management. Baker consistently yells, curses and threatens employees. Consistently smokes marijuana and drinks at work. The facts are the facts. If you're considering working here, check how many past employees there are on LinkedIn. There has been multiple mass exoduses of employees leaving MoTek due to ownership. Avoid this "business" at all costs.

MoTek Technologies Response

The facts are the facts. Most of the people that I hire at MoTek came from “jobs” that pay less than 60K / year. Most have very little or no sales experience. I’ve hired people who were unemployed for 6 months – 1 year, people who were not getting an opportunity from anyone else. I’ve even hired people who were pretty much “homeless”. So I sleep good at night knowing that I try to give people an opportunity to have a lucrative career. For those individuals who have talent, work ethic, hit daily goals, and put themselves in a position to close at least 1 deal per month, ALL were able to at least double or triple their income at MoTek. For higher level producers, they were able to quadruple their income. Successful employees at MoTek have been able to purchase homes, buy new cars, put some cash in the bank, and take exotic vacations for the first time in their life. For those individuals who don’t want to pick up the phone, or follow the recipe, they all FAIL!!!! I’m definitely not perfect, and I’ve made many mistakes. But I’m not the reason you failed here. I let everyone know in the interview process upfront what it takes to be successful, and unfortunately, this is a high turnover business. Most people say they want to make a six-figure income, but only a few are willing to actually put in the work. If you’re able to meet minimum expectations, then I’ll do all I can to reward you for your efforts / performance. And if you can’t meet minimum expectations, it’s nothing personal, and I wish you the best in your future endeavors.

Making good money isn't for everyone

Pros

Working at MoTek structures you to be competitive, have quick wit, be sharp in sales, and set you up to make good money. Most people are used to working in companies that have leads and supervisors, to shield the owner's expectations. Jerald is hands-on, which can be an advantage to those who are interested in advancing to become successful. Not everybody is able to keep up the pace, or have the entrepreneurial Spirit to withstand the process.

Cons

You have to put in hours in order to make the money. This will cause you to compromise with other areas of life. Depending on how important success is for you, some might not be able to make this transition.
