Pros

Nice, young and diverse team, the hiring process was top notch.

Cons

Well I got fired on day 1 at 10AM for being 15 minutes late on account of spending half an hour having an axiety attack and vomiting in anticipation of my first day at a new job which I held dear. Texted the recruiter that I'd be 10 or so minutes late at 8:10. Walked in at 8:45 instead of 8:30. No worries when I get there, I am introduced to everyone one by one and taken on a tour of the office. We pass my to-be boss' office, say a quick hello, she smiles and replies and all seems good. Once done with the introductions, I start logging in at my work station and eventually got called in my boss' office. She starts the conversation by saying I was 20 minutes late. I apologize and explain the reason while she cuts me off over and over again saying things like "I don't have the time for this" (it was a short explanation, simply said I was getting ready to leave and got nauseous from anxiety which put me out of commission for a while). She then asked me what schedule I would like, mentioning that she doesn't have a fixed schedule for her other employees but she'd have one for me since I mentioned punctuality being my biggest flaw during the interviews. No worries 8to5 or 830to530 whatever works, I said. She then instruts me to leave her office while she calms down, mentioning she had a meeting at 10 and that we'd talk after that meeting. 5 minutes later she calls me in her office, says I'm fired. I'm baffled and don't know what to think but I still manage to ask if it's a final decision, she replies that it is and she rushes me out of the door so fast and with so little consideration, I felt like she had developed actual disdain for me in all of 2 minutes of talking to me. I was still processing the news, walking towards the kitchen where I had left my lunch, when she insisted that I leave now. I had to tell her that my lunch was still in the fridge. She was like "oh ok -_-". Oh did I mention I not only quit my job to join them but also all of this happened on Dec 8 so 2 weeks before the holidays. Not even sure if I'm eligible for Employment Insurance considering I voluntarily quit my old job the day I got their offer, incidentally having less paid hours the last two weeks since we'd stopped increasing my workload. Literally rushed me to quit my job so I could start before the holidays to streamline their process. I sort of understand where the decision is coming from but, I'm surprised at the zero tolerance firing of an employee on their first day, for being 15 minutes late, without any considerations of why and how. Crazy to think most of the team gave me quite the warm welcome and all looked pretty stoked to have a new estimator on board. While I understand I was late on my first day and that it isn't ideal, I find the pill a little bit hard to swallow.
